You guys drive around to map WiFi hotspots. Why not just make a free iPhone App for that. The iPhone already knows where it is and sees the MAC address of the WiFI hotspots. You can save ton of money and have a ton of data provided to you for free in an instant.
I can help you with the user interface ideas for free too.

why dont you add more countries and cities in the skyhook driver application? Also put an option of volunteering there, i will help in posting all the wi-fi spots here in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
My home city in Romania is not mapped at all. How can I contribute to the database with wi-fi/cell positions without actually being hired as a full time driver ?
Does loki application submit this data to skyhook if i have a gps attached ?
Can a member of the public apply to be a driver in an area we wish to see the dataset expanded upon in? I understand you hire contractors in towns and cities to do the driving with your scanner devices.
I added my mac address to skyhooks database and tried the locate-me function on my iPhone. Once it find me exactly at my home, but the other times it is still inacurate! Why is that? During all the times I tried, I was connected with my fifi that's added to the skyhook database. Can anybody help me out? Great thanks in advance!
I've found that at times wifi location on my 3G iPhone just stops working, in urban areas of dense wifi that have been scanned by Skyhook and at which I've always been able to get a position before, and at times when I have good wifi connectivity on the phone itself (like in my own apartment). Then it suddenly starts working again, and all is back to normal.
I've been in Seoul, South Korea for the past couple of days. For the first day I was here my phone was unable to locate me at all, and then wifi positioning magically started working again. But I haven't been able to get a GPS position since I've been here, even when standing for long periods of time with a clear view of the sky and good network connectivity and a good wifi position. When I'm at home in the U.S., I'll get a GPS position within seconds after stepping out of my building (which is quite impressive), so I'd think that if my phone were going to give me a GPS position it would have been able to do so by now.
Can someone tell me what's going on here? Is it possible for wifi or GPS positioning to be temporarily disabled on the server end for periods of time or in certain areas of the world? I wouldn't think that this was a problem with my iPhone, but I don't know enough about how this system is put together to say for sure.
Why is the coverage in Las Cruces, NM so poor? When you look at Belen, NM a town a 1/10th the size of Las Cruces it's saturated. So why isn't Las Cruces?
Is it possible to update the access point location or remove it from the database? I keep thinking the day I move from my house or I if I ever sell my AP...
I travel a lot and use a wireless travel router in my hotel room. I was concerned that this router would screw up my (and maybe others') position, since it would pop up in different locations at different times. The Skyhook support people assured me that they had algorithms to weed out travel routers, but I found on a recent trip that mine was causing my iPhone to locate me in Florida (where I live, and where this router must once have been detected) even though I was in Japan and Hong Kong at the time. In fact, when I was in Hong Kong recently my iPhone would locate me sometimes in Hong Kong and sometimes in Florida, depending on where in my hotel room I was standing.
It seems that if I were to use this router in an as-yet unscanned area, it might cause Skyhook to add other routers seen in that area as being near where it thinks my router is in Florida. For example, I was using my router in Shanghai recently, which I don't think Skyhook has scanned yet; would Skyhook then think that other routers my phone can see are located near my Florida home?
Perhaps, in addition to letting us to add a MAC address location to the database, Skyhook could let us add the MAC address of travel routers that should never be considered.
If I were to add my iPod Touch's Mac address to the Skyhook database would I be able find my location even when connected to a WiFi signal not registered with Skyhook?...would this eliminate having to enter Mac addresses for multiple WiFi points around me?
I am a skyhook driver and I need the device tech support number. The scanning device shut off today and will not come back on. What is the scanning device tech support number?
So I'm a bit concerned about my privacy. I have read your privacy policy, and I understand your company is collecting this information with good intentions, but I think I'd still like to remove my access point from your database. I run a private access point so it's pointless for others to locate me with my information anyways. How do I go about removing my information?
Hi, we are planing to develop iPhone/iPod touch based software for museum. The idea is to locate guests using local WiFi network and give them appropriate information.
How do you think, is it possible using your database? What accuracy is provided with your service?
If you use this company's products or services, we'll add the company to your dashboard. If you work for this company, we'll add you as an employee. Got it, thanks!
