SMS - cannot change my caller ID
When I try to change my mobile caller ID, Skype is supposed to send me a verification code. No code is received. I believe others have had this problem.

Quick update – there’s a problem re-verifying numbers you’ve used in the past, so for example if you set up caller ID for +XXXX, then change to +YYYY and then try to change it back to +XXXX, it won’t work.
Our engineers are working on a fix, but in the meantime, please contact our customer support team, who will be able to sort things out for you.

As we can see the CallerID which is currently activated is: +134******49
Was this the number you were trying to activate and if so it should be working according to our records? There are no other activation attempts and if the above number is not the desired one please try again and I might be able to track what has happened.

Inappropriate?That is not correct. The current ID for SMS messages is +44 7 xxxxx. That is the number which is set under the tools>options menu and this is confirmed as the sender ID when messages are sent. I will try to activate again to my actual number. Please note my ID is jeffoz1 (letter 'o' not zero)

Inappropriate?Well that is definitely my ID (I re-signed into skype to ensure I was not going mad). I tried to change the ID again and same thing. No verification code comes through. If your diagnostics shows a different registered ID then it confirms that something is wrong in the system.

Inappropriate?Dmitri’s definitely the expert here, but you might like to take a look at your Caller ID settings online as well as in Skype itself – do they match what you see in Skype?

Inappropriate?Yes. I have now deactivated the online number and reset it again. It takes 24 hours. After that I will try again to change the SMS caller ID.

Inappropriate?I just wanted to add that I noticed from the Skype forum that a number of people are experiencing this same problem and, like me, will avoid using SMS on Skype since it creates confusion for the receiver who will just reply to the ID sent (which is the wrong number). This obviously impacts on Skype's revenue generation opportunities.

Inappropriate?The caller ID setting online was reset. Same issue exists with trying to change the SMS ID. viz No verification code comes through.
I tried checking to see if the online ID was working and it is not!!! When I make a call from Skype the ID which shows up is a local landline number 02 82xx xxxx ???? I tried ringing this number from a landline and it is engaged?? Whose number is it? I will have to disable this ID now so people don't get confused when I ring from Skype.
Please note that in setting up the online ID the box concerning local numbers in unticked. The local number I have as part of the unlimited subscription deal is 02 80xx xxxx which is not the same as above ID in any case.
Any ideas when Dimitri is likely to get to this problem?

The reply I received was:

Thank you for contacting Skype Support.
We are sorry to inform you that sending sms messages to the USA is not
possible lately. This is the reason why we can not send sms messages
including the verification code to US numbers.
At present, Skype SMS sender identification in the United States and
Canada is not supported.
If you have sent a verification SMS to verify your mobile number please
provide us the time, date and destination of the number so that we can
refund this cost."

Inappropriate?Hi, I am happy to report that my problem seems to fixed (I don't live in USA). Having left this for a while, I came back and tried to change the ID number and it worked. I can now send SMS's and my correct mobile number comes up at the receiver end. Thank you to the Skype employees on this forum for fixing it. I found that using the formal skype support channel inadequate.

Inappropriate?I had a problem where it wouldn't send the verification. I had my own number in my contacts and had already sent myself a text, had to delete both the conversation and the contact and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
