Can you introduce a paid version so we can get rid of the badge?
I completely understand that you're trying to get the word out on your app, but I really don't like "posted with [X]" badges in my entries. I'd be much happier to spend $5 on a LifeCast Pro version or something with the option of using that badge (ideally off by default in the paid version) instead of being forced to.

Yes
LifeCast Pro is off the design board. One of the features is being able to switch off the "Posted with LifeCast" tag. The Pro version will be produced as a seperate application on the App store.

Inappropriate? You're right that we do want to increase awareness of LifeCast, and putting a link at the bottom of the post is the easiest way to do that. At least we're not sticking an image in there (*ahem* Clowdy) - which could be used to track the hits on your blog !
As Damien mentioned, removing the link is something that's on the cards for a Pro version of LifeCast. If there's anything else you'd like to pay us for though, please let us know :)

Inappropriate?I would love to see better integration with Tumblr and its various types of posts. For example, I like to post a lot of quotes, and Tumblr (as you may know if you've used it) can distinguish between post types like "text," "quote," "audio," etc. Quotes get a different default styling by the Tumblr system, and it'd be great to be able to integrate with that functionality on the go.
-
Inappropriate?Well Tumblr exposes those functions through the API (see http://www.tumblr.com/docs/api) which means it is possible for us to introduce the functionality in LifeCast. It's simply a case of prioritisation, i.e. a lot of work between not many developers!

Inappropriate?Oh yea, one last thing: Do you think you'll be accepting beta testers for LifeCast Pro? I've been helping with other iPhone apps and I write for Ars Technica for a living, so I'm pretty used to the beta thing and keeping quiet.
-
Yeah - that would be great. We just need to get a new beta written first :) -
Inappropriate? Also, don't forget, that LifeCast is designed to give the same experience independent of what blog you're using (or, even if you're not using a blog at all). The downside is that we are limited to the 'lowest common denominator' in terms of the functionality the blogs support.
Adding Tumblr specific post types would actually be almost trivially easy - the big problem is how to give the user the ability to choose which one to use, and what to do for other blogs that don't support them. -
Inappropriate? Can you simply not offer Tumblr-specific posting features when posting to other blogs? I think a simple rotary/drop-down menu at the top of the posting window in a Tumblr post to switch between post types like text and quote would do the trick, and you could simply hide that menu when posting to other blog platforms. When a quote post type is selected, you could then divide the posting area like Tumblr does; a top area for the actual quote, the bottom for the source.

Inappropriate? We are hoping to introduce beta testing for LifeCast, yes. I believe this will all be handled via the App Store (in some fashion)

Inappropriate?I notice on your linkblog you say 'strange UI'.
What particularly do you find strange about it ? We've tried to stick as close as possible to the iPhone conventions, so we'd be interested to he if you think we got something wrong. -
Inappropriate?Well, I don't want to get into which functionality is easy and which is hard really. As far as lowest comon denominator goes we're happy to think about implementing functionality so long as it doesn't detract from the look and feel AND simplicity of LifeCast. What we don't wish to do is have LifeCast do Tumblr exceptionally well but neglect the other blogs at the same time. In effect I think what I am saying is we don't wish to disenfranchise any potential user group. When a user uses tumblr on LifeCast it should really feel just like his/her experience of using blogger or wordpress on LifeCast...
Ah shucks - keep the ideas coming in they drive our design meetings and we'll see what we can do! ;-)

Inappropriate?I meant to go back and edit that after posting it this morning, as I did it on the go while moving our car in Chcago; still getting used to the city so I get caught up with stuff.
But actually, most of the UI isn't that strange. You have done a great job of sticking to iPhone conventions; a far better job than most other app devs are doing. The only two strange parts that initially struck me are the bright blue color of your app toolbars (more on that in a sec) and the actual posting window feels wonky. The date and an "Event Title" placeholder seem to float near the top right of the post, and I wasn't sure where to tap to edit the post title, or to get into the body to actually start writing. I think that some kind of divider lines or barriers between these areas would go a long way to add some structure here. Possibly even a very thin 1-3 px line like Mail has between its To/CC/Subject fields.
About the color: the bright blue initially struck me as strange and very un-iPhone like, but after opening LifeCast a couple more times I really like it. I've realized that many other iPhone apps that stick with standard UI practices use the same darker blue toolbars that Apple does in its own apps, which means they all end up looking like each other. I love the color you used now, and I'll go edit that post to clear this up. -
Inappropriate?glad you like it - as your in a totally chatty mood why not take a moment to look at two more 'leaks' in the LifeCast world

and not forgetting - something we are really keen on

I’m being cheeky I know
-
Inappropriate?I was almost certain that you were going to call up the title/body division, and not knowing where to tap. Yeah, it's something that I've been meaning to go back and sort out for a long time. I was trying to avoid explicit labels like 'Title:' 'Date:' etc, but I can see how it would be confusing. Maybe I'll try something that's more Mail-like.
I'm glad you like the colour (British spelling ;) ). I saw a couple of apps that had custom colour toolbars (Zenbe for one) and liked the way it gave the App an identity. I checked the Apple guidelines and they are cool with you having custom toolbar colours (the pretty much encourage it). As for the actual colour - we'd already settled on our icon, and version 1.0 was already on the App store, so it was kind of a no-brainer !
Glad you like our app. Be sure that we have some very clever and talented people who are working hard on it all the time. And me too :) -
Inappropriate?I'd love to be able to change the "posted with" signature in the Pro version actually?
I like to put a creative commons disclaimer at the bottom of my posts, and have it set as my default "signature" when posting via blogger's dashboard.
I'd like to continue doing this via LifeCast. Maybe an option to edit the "signature" rather than just remove it. I'd even be happy to leave the LifeCast plug in there. ;)
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Actually I like Nathan's idea better. Allowing us to change the badge—or remove it altogether—would offer users a well-rounded choice for what to do with the badge. I can understand if people want to keep or modify it.
I’m agreeing
-
Inappropriate?HI
Yes signatures are coming (sometime) - wow, yes a creative commons sig is an absolute ideal way to use a signature. Great idea!
