Lifecast needs a Re-Send option or check to ensure posts have been correctly sent.
While I was away on holiday recently in Portugal, I was writing new Blog posts but away from any net access. I didn't see this as a problem, as I was sure I'd find free WiFi at some point. Actually this was much more difficult than I thought.... access is VERY sparse there, and interestingly I later saw a bit on TV about broadband access throughout Europe, and they have the lowest penetration, so I guess that answers why I couldn't find any WiFi points! :)
Anyway, at one point I did find what looked like an Unsecured WiFi point and thought I'd quickly send a few blog posts that I had written. The problem was that although the iphone did connect, it was one of those, have to pay for access connections.
And more specifically, Lifecast didn't seem to check that the posts were REALLY posted... it just seemed to send them into the void :(
Now that it THINKS they have been posted, it shows a tick against the post, and I can't now resend them :(
Can I suggest that either the software needs to check somehow that the posts have REALLY been posted, or there definitely needs to be a "RePost" option.
Or maybe a "copy" option to a new post, maybe even to your other blog accounts... now that would be good ;)
Now I'm going to retype all the posts... and of course, typically they were nice long ones!
Unless anyone has any other suggestions of course?

Inappropriate?Thats an interesting problem.
Lifecast, does actually check, but the way it does is by receiving a 'all ok' signal from as a response to the posting. now, in that sort of 'pay to connect' link, any http request is actually connected to their site to request payment, BUT that responds with a 200 (success) to any message. So, the application checks that the request was successful, but the access point you where using was responding with success to anything.
We would have to add some sort of 'checksum' to handle this, to check that the 200/success was actually from our own backend.
I will discuss it with the rest of the team.
Thanks for letting us know. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the quick response. The worst thing is that the "status" sets to "SENT" and there is nothing that the user can do about it, other than retyping it all in.
If it would be easier to code in a "reset" option to change the flag back to "unsent", then I guess that would do. (but people would have to be aware that this may happen on pay-to-use wifi access points). -
Inappropriate?a better way to handle it is for lifecast to check more than the return status of the http request. so that it can tell if the success message has come from our server or from some other server intercepting the request.

Inappropriate?OK... Best I'd better get retyping all my holiday posts then :)
-
Inappropriate?really sorry about that, shame cut'n'paste has not yet arrived.
-
Inappropriate?another possible approach is for us to clear the 'sent' flag when you reconfigure the blog settings, that behaviour actually makes sense.
-
Inappropriate?Excellent idea... Now if you could just get that change implemented by this afternoon it would be great :)
I’m Smiling!

Inappropriate?well, the time taken to get an update through itunes is a bit longer than that. and before that we actually need to get agreement on it and then get it implemented. I seriously doubt it will be this afternoon :-(((
Let me see what the rest of the team think about it. -
Inappropriate?I have the exact same problem. I posted 3 lengthy messages on my ipod when connected to a 'pay-as-you-go' wifi accesspoint without actually paying.
The posts are maked as posted, but they are not. I can't resend them and I can't copy and paste them. It will be a pain in the *** to retype them., especaially on an ipod (am currently travelling around the world).
Is there a quick fix or workaround for this? Any tips will be much appreciated.
I’m frustrated

"I posted 3 lengthy messages on my ipod when connected to a 'pay-as-you-go' wifi accesspoint without actually paying" So you're asking for a fix to allow you to do something you shouldn't be doing?!?
