New release and roadmap

We've posted a bug fix release to the App Store, so you should hopefully soon see an update appear on your iPhone. This is mostly a bug fix release, so don't get too excited, although we have sneaked in one much requested feature: the ability to choose which of your Blogger blogs to post your entries to ! We've also given the app a lick of paint - we hope you like it.

Apple seems to have a backlog of updates to work through at the moment though, so we have no idea how long it will take before it reaches you.

We want to tell you a little bit about what we're going to work on next for LifeCast.

One of the biggest complaints and/or feature requests from version 1.0 was the inability to post photos to Blogger. This is actually a limitation of Blogger's API (an API is just the behind the scenes plumbing that we use to talk to a web service). Blogger doesn't actually allow you to post photos. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of not disabling the post button for photos when you have a Blogger blog set up, so it looked as if you COULD post a photo from LifeCast. Version 1.0.1 will disable this button correctly.

So does that mean you're never going to be able to post photos to Blogger ?! Absolutely not ! The first thing we're working on next is a way to enable this. It is actually technically possible to do it, using the Picassa service, which shares your Blogger login details. It's a little big involved, but we're hoping to have this ready for you in the 1.1 release which should be by the end of July.

After that we've got some really exciting plans about how to support more blog types. Hopefully we'll be able to support all the popular ones, and quickly add support for new ones as required without you even having to download a new update of LifeCast. This will probably be coming around the time of the 1.2 release, so no too far off. At the moment, we're estimating the end of August for this - though it could be even sooner.

Looking further ahead, we have plans to support more media types. We can't say too much about this at the moment, but it's going to be really exciting stuff for all you LifeCasters !

The LifeCast Team.
