Problems with Upload of PDF Documents
Slideshare is not good in converting documents. The new function needs a lot of improvement!
For test purposes I uploaded five documents as PDF files:
ECM Enterprise Content Management
http://www.slideshare.net/DRUKFF/ecm-...
Original:
http://www.PROJECT-CONSULT.net/files/... Paper_kff_2006.pdf
was not converted into a document but into a slideshow
PROJECT CONSULT Newsletter 20090226
http://www.slideshare.net/DRUKFF/proj...
Original:
http://www.PROJECT-CONSULT.net/files/...
was converted but lost its content
Records Management & MoReq2 Roadshow 2007 Seminarband
http://www.PROJECT-CONSULT.net/files/... MoReq2_TN2007.pdf
Records Management & MoReq2 Roadshow 2008 Seminarband
http://www.PROJECT-CONSULT.net/files/... Seminarband 2008.pdf
Records Management & MoReq2 Roadshow 2009 Seminarband
http://www.PROJECT-CONSULT.net/files/...
All three documents created the "Ooops-error" in conversion.

I have this problem, too!

Ulrich,
We have looked into your complaint ... cases 2, 3, 4, 5 are resolved now... this was a problem in our code... sometimes we have issues in converting some specific documents due to fonts, embedded objects, clipart etc.. it should be fine now if you reupload..
case 1 ... I downloaded the file and it is a presentation (aspect ratio is of a standard presentation), hence will show as one... not sure why it should be a document

Inappropriate?Thanks Amit!
Problem 2 (PROJECT CONSULT Newsletter 20090226) was a two-columned newsletter. Looks OK now - no re-upload.
Problems 3 (Records Management & MoReq2 Roadshow 2007 Seminarband), 4 (Records Management & MoReq2 Roadshow 2008 Seminarband) and 5 (Records Management & MoReq2 Roadshow 2009 Seminarband) were documentations including slides - this might have generated the conversion problem. There is still a small display problem with the footer of the pages. But the publications look OK now - no re-upload.
Problem 1 (ECM Enterprise Content Management) - this is a horizontal A4 book publication ... no slides (and no slide fomat) but a three-columned text in three languages. Have a look at the original PDF-file!
Kind regards,
Uli
I’m a little bit pleased, but there is one topic left in the answer ...

Inappropriate?Problem 1... for pdfs, document v/s presentation format is calculated depnding on its aspect ratio (width/height)... if width > height , is a presentation for us... if height > width , its a doc
I downloaded your file... its width is greater hence it is preso... -
Inappropriate?Amit,
the implemented rule is too easy ... it is a A4 horizontal multi-column document originally created in Microsoft Word, uploaded as PDF document.
If I upload a document with the document uploading function of slideshare I would expect to receive a document ... and not a slideshow ...
Kind regards, Uli -
Inappropriate?Ulrich,
Your're right... upload it as a doc (MS office 2003) file... and you should get a doc.
Once its a pdf, there is no way we can know what program created it... -
Sorry, problem not solved. Please review my comment on the display of the documents with the Slideshare/Facebook-App below! Uli -
Inappropriate?Hello to Amit
While you are looking at the PDF conversions, my PDF slideshow (created in OOo Impress and exported to PDF) has no text in the slideshare browser presentation. When I "Get the file" (so it displays in acroread in my browser) the text is still there. It's a problem mainly because 5 of my slides are code snippets so they are just white pages on slideshare :-)
Here it is:
http://www.slideshare.net/harrymc/usi...
Hope you can spot the issue in the conversion. I'm here in the forum because the feedback form only displays two fields; an email subject line request field and a drop down list to choose a category. I can't see any further steps.
Best wishes

Inappropriate?Hello AMIT,
the problem with the documents is still not solved properly. I have Slideshare embedded on Facebook. If a "slideshow" (one of my five mentioned documents above ...) is started from Facebook, it generates the following error: "Oops! This slide did not convert properly hence cannot be displayed."
This applies to the four documents (Moreq Roadshow, Newsletter) as well to the slideshow of a document (three lingual ECM book).
Kind regards
Uli

I’m amused - the problem is not solved by now ....
