ACTIVITY FUNCTION
I love the concept, but sem to have problems
getting slife to work. The problem I have is with the Activities function. If I close the application, or shut down my computer it both "forgets" any new activities I have created and the history of the default activities - it
basically defaults to the original state.
Please let me know how to fix this. I am running OS 10.5.3.
Regards
Peter

Inappropriate?Hi Peter - I was about to reply to your email and saw your message here.
This is strange. There's been some issues with Activities, many of them reported here in the forum, but you are the first one with this problem.
I wonder if others are having this problem.
You are creating the activities by going to the activities view and clicking on the "+" button, correct? Then after setting them up, they work correctly but when you quit, they disappear.
It would be really useful if we could replicate the problem, in order to fix it. -
Inappropriate?Hello,
I have the same problem here.
I've just installed slife and created some activities (all with objectives). The activities from 9 am to 6 pm were logged until I shutdown the macbook (without quitting slife). So, I've started the computer and the activities log were gone.
Unfortunately it is not always that the activities disappear - so I can't see a pattern.
I am running OS X 10.5.3 too. -
Inappropriate?Just a quick update.
Just when slife runs for 10+ hours it doesn't save the activities status. For short usage (10 minutes) it behaves well.
I’m anxious to be using slife correctly! (this is a great tool!)

Inappropriate?Thank you so much. We will be looking into it.
-
Inappropriate?Guilherme, do the activities default to the original state for you as well? Or the activities disappear? Or just their data?
-
Inappropriate? It's just like sometimes slife doesn't save anything from the session. If during the session I create a new activity and this session is the one that doesn't save anything, nor the data from the existing activities is saved, nor the new activity is saved.

Inappropriate?Hello,
How hard would it be to add some debug flags to slife? I mean, since the problem seems to be something related only to save the current state, I think it is possible (or even easy :-) to add a flag that logs the exception when the "save" was unsuccessful - or even dump this exception to the screen. If such thing is possible, you can send me this "debug release" at germoglio [[at]] gmail [[dot]] com and I can test it. -
Inappropriate?I too am having this issue. I create an activity and set it up to monitor some programs. If I next go back in and add some programs Slife will not remember the additions. It also seems to delete the entire activity completely sometimes.

Inappropriate?Hello,
Matthew and Peter, do you have Application Enhancer installed? I've uninstalled it and it seems that the problem was solved (I'm not really sure - tomorrow I'll test it better). -
Inappropriate?I am not running it.
-
Inappropriate?I don't think you're going to see it running. I didn't know I had installed it until I saw its icon on System Preferences menu right on the "other" section - maybe I've installed it with another app by clicking next, next, next, finish without reading what was happening :-)
-
Inappropriate?I would guess that is what happened. I do not have i installed and according to their website it is not Leopard compatible which is what I am running. You may check this out and see what it may have been installed with. http://unsanity.com/haxies/ape

Inappropriate? Thanks for following up here guys. I appreciate it. We are working on a fix, but we couldn't quite replicate the issue yet.
We will test things with the Application Enhancer just to make sure that's not the culprit here. In the meantime, here's how to run Slife in debug mode:
Go to the terminal and type:
defaults write com.slifelabs.slife debugOn -bool YES
You can then type
defaults write com.slifelabs.slife debugOn -bool NO
to turn it back off. Slife will output a lot of debugging messages to the console. Perhaps that will provide clues as to what is going on. -
Inappropriate?Would you like the log emailed or just put here? I can also do a video capture if you would like to watch the process. I believe the issue is related to the goals process.
-
Inappropriate? The video capture would be phenomenal. You can also take a look at the log and see if anything interesting or unusual shows up, especially around the time the problem occurs. You can email it to help at slifelabs.
Thanks, I appreciate it! The video would be great too. -
Inappropriate?Sent an email and a couple of links to videos. Hope this helps.

Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. The app discards any new activities that I enter when I quit.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Mike, check this update:
http://www.slifeblog.com/?p=69
It should take care of the activity disappearing problem. We will be pushing Slife 2.0.1 through auto-update today. -
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem, too. I am running 2.0.1 (just downloaded today) on a 1.8g GHz Intel CoreDuo MacBook Pro (1G MBP) with 10.5.4. I created several Activities this afternoon, and when I rebooted just now all but one of them are gone (as are the associated URLs and filenames). Changes I made to the default "checking e-mail" activity (pointing it at mail.app and GMail) were retained
It almost seems as if it STOPPED retaining changes at a certain point - the changes that were retained were the very first ones I made. To test this, I just started it up, created a couple of new activities, and quit. When I launched the application again, it was back at the same slightly-modified-from-default state that it was before.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? We were able to replicate this problem and then fixed it for 2.0.1. But if you are running 2.0.1 and having trouble with activities disappearing, then something is up!
Can you tell me the exact steps you took to create the activities and when they disappear? -
Inappropriate?Sure thing... Here we go.
1) Launch Slife.
2) Select "activities" from the lefthand bar.
3) Create a new activity by clicking on the plus sign. In the "Web and Documents" section, associate a filename string and a URL with that activity (using the plus sign).
4) Spend a bit of time monkeying around at the associated URL. (side question: can Slife understand wildcards in URLs? For example, I want to track all of my Flickr time under the "procrastination" activity by telling the activity to track http://www.flickr.com/*.)
5) Quit Slife.
6) Relaunch Slife.
Last time I tried this series of steps, the new activity had disappeared. This time, for whatever reason, it hasn't. (And I tried to coax it into misbehaving by trying three times!)
Programs running concurrently with Slife:
Flock, Mail, Adium, Southwest Airlines' Ding!, Quicksilver, QuietMBP, Journler
So I don't know WHAT it was doing the other day that was keeping it from behaving properly. I'll make a note if it happens again and try to actually reproduce it. -
Inappropriate?Hi Sara - From your description, it looks like you are running Slife 2.0 and not 2.0.1 (which includes the fix). If you go into the about box, does it say 2.0.1?
-
Inappropriate?Nope, it's 2.0.1, but as I said, I couldn't replicate the problem yesterday.
I’m thankful
