Slife 2.0 cannot be run in the background.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, Slife 2.0 cannot be run as a background application, which was one aspect I loved about Slife. If I can't run it as a background application I am honestly considering downgrading back to Slife 1.3.2.
Is there any way I can run 2.0 in the background?

Inappropriate?You are correct. Right now, Slife 2.0 cannot run as a background application. The reason for that is because there's an issue with 10.5 that causes some weirdness when changing the process back and forth into the foreground.
We've talked to Apple and are working on a fix. As soon as we have it, we will include it in Slife 2.0 and make it behave like 1.3.2.
When you run 1.3.2 under Leopard and Slife is in the foreground, do you find that sometimes its menu bar is not displayed? This is the issue we've been observing here.

I'm particularly impressed that you provided the link to download 1.3.2., although I may not use it now that I know you are working on adding/fixing that capability in version 2.0.
Incidentally, I have experienced the issue with the menu that you mentioned above. To work around that problem, I would simply click on another program and then click back on Slife and the menu would appear. A slight inconvenience, but not a big deal.

Inappropriate?No updates on this particular issue. However, we are warming up to the idea of splitting Slife into two apps, one app that can run in the background collects all activities ("observer") and one that works as a "visualizer".
We need to work a bit more on this to see, but it's something we would like to explore.

Inappropriate?In the meantime, you can use Dock Dodger ( http://foggynoggin.com/dockdodger ) to hide slife from the dock... and if you use LightSwitch for apple+tabbing—that lets you hide apps as well. -

Inappropriate?We are looking into the possibility of actually separating the Slife observer from the visualizer. That way, the observer would be always running in the background (small footprint) and you would be able to bring up the visualizer whenever you want to actually look at the data.
I wish I could tell you that this would be done very soon, but we are still a little ways from a release that addresses this issue.

Inappropriate?Also, is there a way to hide Slife at login? I added Slife to my Login Items, tick the Hide check box, but it doesn't help. The main window still shows up every time I start my Mac.

Inappropriate?You are correct! We are a little bit behind on 2.1, but that's because we've been thinking of making some more substantial changes to the UI to make the activities feature more intuitive.
I don't want to make any promises as to when it will be ready and released, but it shouldn't be too long from now.
