Slife doesn't record my time when watching vids
Why doesn't Slife record my time when I watch videos on VLC player?
I created an activity "watching video" and enabled VLC player, I watched almost 2 hours of video and Slife only recorded 6 minutes of activity.

Inappropriate?Ah, that's because Slife has an idle detector and you were probably not moving the mouse as you were watching videos, correct? Slife thought that you were not there, since it couldn't perceive your presence.
It's an interesting question, and it occurs with media players like VLC, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player and iTunes... Slife could make exceptions to these applications, but it would be hard to always include every app.

what if instead of making "extensions" to every app, Just whenever Slife recognizes an app it doesn't know that goes idle, he'll ask you through popup if you would like Slife to keep tracking it? after a while he will know all your personal app usage... of course you could change it through settings.... -
Inappropriate?I've got the same problem. Pretty much across the board I'd like it to track everything I do, whether my mouse is moving or not. When I'm doing things like reading news on google reader, or if I'm working on something in indesign, I may not always be moving the mouse but I want it to know what I'm doing. What if there was a way to turn off the idle detector?
I’m wishin' it were different
-
Inappropriate? That's an interesting idea - turning off the idle detector. I wonder if this is something that a lot of people would want. Detecting idleness is a key functionality of the app.
-
Inappropriate?perhaps idleness could be exempted from such media applications ? a sound detector maybe ?
-
Inappropriate? Some good thoughts - we will definitely consider this.
-
Inappropriate?what is the idleness time setting? Does it stop calculating after say 2 minutes of inactivity?
-
Inappropriate?sorry answered my own question when I looked in the prefs
-
Inappropriate?I disagree, the idle function is awesome. I walk away from my desk all the time, so it's great that I don't have to remember to turn it to the private every time.
Priority no. 1 for me: Keeping idle activated by default.
Priority no. 2: Building the ability to turn it off, if you want. As I can totally see why people would want to track all time, whether or not they're mousing/typing.
I’m thankful for this awesome app

Inappropriate?Might it be that ONLY moving the mouse is regarded as activity? This could be the reason why SLife doesn't seem to correctly track the time I work in Nissus Writer: I'm only typing!
(Mac OS 10.5.5)
I’m waiting for satisfaction.
-
Correct! That might be the reason. -

Inappropriate?I'm all for tracking media applications such as video, since it's easy to lose time to watching a video (or even worse, parts of a video) here and there.
-
Inappropriate? In addition to disabling the idle detector, there should be options when returning from a period of idleness. Subtract the accrued time, keep the accrued time, re-associate the accrued time. Another option is to disable idle detection when using certain applications. For me, I want to see 9 hours recorded at the end of my work day. 4 before lunch of non-stop computer use (even if I was on the phone, chatting without mouse usage or watching a short film), 1 hour idle (or lunching) and 4 more hours of computer use.
All in all, still an inspirational product!
I’m energized

Thanks. I think that's a great idea. -
Inappropriate?I'm trying gather metrics of application usage for video editing.
This includes Final Cut Pro and Compressor primarily, that use both mouse and keyboard movement, as well as a significant time of idle video watching and file conversion.
I'd like to gather this "somewhat idle" time as "used time" for the application. -
This is a good example of why it might make sense to disable the idle detector in some cases. -
Inappropriate?I got an idea I'd like to share... What the computer does when it's idle? start the screen saver or turn off the screen! So why not play along with the OS configuration for idle detection. I mean, when the OS decides the computer is idle, Slife stop recording...
I’m unsure

That's a cool idea!
