Slife quits (crashes) on launch
If Slife 2.0 quits immediately (or crashes) when you try to launch it, try the following:
1. Right click on the Slife application and select "Show Package Contents"
2. Navigate to Contents>Resources
3. Delete the following files:
- firefox.scpt
- mail.scpt
- netnewswire.scpt
- opera.scpt
- safari.scpt
Then try to start Slife again.
We believe that there's an issue with Slife's script loading mechanism that is causing problems to some people. We are looking into it.
If this solves your problem, please let us know!

Inappropriate?Didn't help for me. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Is there somewhere else I can look for help? I'd really like to try this application.
I’m going nuts.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Callista - hmm... I am not sure what could be going on. Do you see the application when it launches at all?
Do you see any messages in the Console application that refers to Slife?
You could try to run Slife in debug mode. You can do that by opening the Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.slifelabs.slife debugOn -bool YES
You should see messages in the Console in debug mode.
Please send an email to help at slife labs and we can try to help you further. We would really like to understand why the app is failing for some people.
Thanks so much for reporting this and sorry about the problem. -
Inappropriate?Steve, which version of Slife are you running? The latest, v2.0.1?
-
yes v2.0.1 -
has worked fine since deleting the suggested files -
Inappropriate? In console, it is referencing NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption and not finding it.
-
Thanks for this data point about the issue. Did you try removing the files? -
Inappropriate? In my case it's because the new version only works for Leopad, and I am running Tiger :(
They didn't tell me that when the update window popped up.
I’m dissappointed
-
Inappropriate?Hey Rob - Sorry about this. You can get the 1.3.2 version at:
http://www.slifelabs.com/slife/downlo...
We need to make it clearer that the v2.0 is Leopard only -
Thankyou, ethomaz! :) -
Inappropriate? This cropped up for me... sometime earlier today, I think. I upgraded to 10.5.5 yesterday but it definitely worked after that. The only other thing that has changed on my system is that I installed MoodBlast a couple of days ago, but the two coexisted for a couple of days without incident. I have deleted the files listed in the first post above and it didn't change anything.
When I launch slife, it starts up enough to launch the menubar icon, and then I get the MacOS "The application Slife quit unexpectedly" error window.
I’m sad

Inappropriate? This is not good. Let's see what's going on!
Next time Slife crashes, if you click on the "Report problem", a dialog will pop up with a bunch of text showing what the app was doing when it crashed.
We would love to have that text. If you could send that to us (email is support at slife labs), that would be really great. Otherwise, it's a bit hard for us to know what could be causing the bug.
Also, if you have the option "Fetch URLs and other data from supported applications" enabled under Preferences>Slife Tracking, I would suggest you try to disable that and see if the problem persists.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Hey KvR - Can you get in touch with us at support at slife labs?
We believe that we have a solution to your crashing problems and it would be great to have you test it and see if it works! -
Inappropriate?I had exactly the same problem (slife crashing on launch, the first time I ever ran it, and all subsequent attempts). I solved it by turning off Afloat (a plugin which gives you extra options in the window menu).
Hope this helps someone else. -
Inappropriate?Thanks. That's great to know!
