Slife uses TONS of processor cycles on Macbook running 10.5.5
When viewing processes in Activity Monitor, Slife is consistently at the top using anywhere from 60% to more than 100% of processing power. I can't imagine it has all that much work to do. Is this normal?
This makes me sad. It also makes me want to stop using slife.

Inappropriate? This issue has come up before. Unfortunately, we haven't observed it consistently in our tests, so it's been difficult to fix it.
From what we've seen (and heard), this problem happens very sporadically. Is it happening to you very often?
What would be great is if you could obtain more information about Slife when it uses too much processing power, and send that to us. Here's how to do that:
1) Open up the Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities)
2) Select the Slife app on the list of processes
3) Click on the 'Sample Process' button in the toolbar
4) The Activity Monitor will output some text
5) Send the text to us by email. You can email support at slife labs.
This way, we will receive a snapshot of the activities of your Slife client and figure out why it's behaving erratically.
Let me know if you have questions or if it's not clear. -
Inappropriate?I've been noticing this too, over the past couple of days my machine has been running v. slowly. Quitting Slife sped things up remarkably... Watching my activity monitor, it seems to be spiking to over 80% whenever it does an "observation"... I dropped the observation rate down to 1 minute and that seems to be helping.
Would it be helpful to have sample process data from me? -
Inappropriate? That would be great. Under System Prefs > General, in the events box, do you have Slife configured to remove events every month? every week?
-
Inappropriate?Events are being removed every month... I'm sending the sample process via e-mail.
I’m highly caffeinated.
-
Inappropriate?I've upgraded to 10.5.6 and I would say the problem has only got more frequent (just a feeling, not sure).
I should say that I have "remove events" set to never, as the main reason for me to use slife is to have a high resolution history of what I've done, rather than as a daily tool.
Sent the process sample some days ago and am happy to assist in whatever. I deeply love this product.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Ok, so here's one thing that helps on my case. If I leave slife with its default screen (day view) the problem is constant and deeply disrupting, even if I'm not watching the app (I use Spaces and have slife on a space I don't usually go to). But...
if I leave slife on the goals screen (which for me is blank, i'm so zen), the problem disappears completely. Slife just has some spikes when I switch apps, but nothing that slows down my computer.
So I'd say the problem might be on the rendering of all that dots, which is not so surprising.
Also the reason why you don't get that in your tests might be that something gets accumulated over time? I don't remember the app being so glutton 3 or 4 months ago, but now it's unusable in the day view.
Hope that helps!
jesús.
I’m hopeful

Thanks so much! That's a very interesting data point. -
Inappropriate?Does this problem get worse the bigger the database of past records?
If so, how about splitting the app into a logging app and a reconciling / reporting app?
I’m curious

We are heading very much in that direction in the future (but not exactly the way you would expect it). We will be talking more about it soon.
