Facebook widget verbiage
I would like the option to change the verbiage on the Facebook widget so it doesn't ask people for money. I just want to display it and let only people I choose know they can contribute for gifts if they want, not all of my friends because that seems rude.

Inappropriate?@BakedLauraBean,
Hmmm. That’s a very interesting idea. We’ll noodle this one around with the
Web development group. I guess we always felt the whole reason behind the
widget would be to encourage friends and family to contribute. But I can see
how you might just want to let people know that you are saving. No
promises but I definitely like the suggestion! Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I agree. At least the ability to manually change the verbiage would be a great addition. I think the other part of the equation might get a little complex and difficult to implement, but I would think they could make it pretty easy for a user to make adjustments to the text before it goes out.
I’m wishing your idea, "good luck!"

Thanks for the comments here! We'll look into this suggestion. -
Inappropriate?Any update on this? I agree with the OP and do not want to ask people for money. I simply want to post that I am updating my SmartyPig goals or whatever, similar to Yelp, Zappos, Flickr, etc. widgets.
Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Ben,
No update on this right now. But is something we will continue to consider should there be enough interest. I was hoping to hear more user feedback on this issue but have not. If I am understanding you correctly, you would like to display the widget, but you do not want the verbiage to indicate you are looking for people to contribute. You would just like to display what you are saving for. Is that correct?

Inappropriate?Exactly. On Zappos, if I buy something, a wall post will show up on my wall that says that I bought x product on Zappos.com.
Yelp is similar, if I post a review on Yelp, my facebook wall will show a post that says I write a review on x company. Actually, the yelp review may include a snipet of the review but I'm not sure.
Maybe "widget" is not what I'm looking for... I'm not sure what you call the feature that ties various sites to Facebook for activity monitoring, but that was what I was referring to. As long as it was able to be done with security still in mind, it would be cool if I had a transfer to one of my accounts show up in Facebook. E.g:
Ben just contributed to his "FUNDNAME" account on SmartyPig.com! (the little pig with the percentage contributed would be cool addition as well)
It would act as some wonderful promotion for the company too... and not in a "wahhh give me money" sort of way that I sort of view the current widget.
Maybe both options would be the best! -
Inappropriate?Ben,
Am looking into this now. Have tested on Yelp. The "share this on my facebook" feature is nice. But requires the user to sign into their Facebook account each and every time to push the message. On SmartyPig we would ideally want to fully automate this feature around recurring monthly contributions. I would not want users to have to perform an "action" for each and every transfer. This may be facilitated thru an FB app/API of some kind but would more than likely require users to store their FB credentials on SmartyPig.
This function may be a better fit when people make contributions to other user's goals. Would seem more appropriate at that time to allow the contributor the option to log into their FB account to post a message that they just contributed to someone's goal.
Thanks again. I like the idea...

Inappropriate?I'm not referring to the "Share this on facebook" link. If you post a review, an ajax window will pop up in the bottom right corner of your browser asking if you want to post the review to facebook. that's only the first time you do it, after that it's automatic. When you sign into facebook, you can accept the pending post and it will post to your account. it's really nifty.
Check this page out for more information. You could also add your Facebook friends to your SmartyPig friends and vice versa.. hmm! :)
