TapeDeck is only partly a better tape recorder
real tape decks can be paused during record and continue recording when "un"paused on the same tape (file). Also when making a mistake in say recording a spoken book, you can stop the recording, rewind, start playing and listen where to hit record again WITHOUT making a new recording (read file). This feature would save me hours of editing time I'm having to do now with new, modern, state of the art digital stuff but never with my old analog tape recorder. Now there's a challenge for you! it would be the first programme that could do that trick.

Inappropriate?TapeDeck should continue recording when you release the pause button. Has this not been working for you?
Regarding the overwriting of an existing recording, it's not exactly desirable for all users to have this destructive feature. We currently recognize it as a valid use case, but haven't come up with a friendly way (both to the user and developer) to implement it yet. -
it's not about overwriting the whole recording but only the last let's say 5 seconds of it
