Do you plan on supporting a background sync?
I have a bazillion (bazillion is an approximate number) pictures and it is impractical for me to wait for a sync on all of them. I'm looking for a photo storage and sharing site, and I was wondering if you plan on supporting background synchronization in the future?

Inappropriate?tom,
Great question. Background synchronization has been discussed among the Snapact founders in the past, but it's implementation has been delayed as we wanted user feedback on exactly what the user experience would be. It is important to note that we want this implemented as well - we just want to be sure to do it the best possible way. What would YOU like to see in this type of synchronization?
- continue syncing while the Snapact Photo Manager is shut down OR
- allow syncing in the Snapact Photo Manager while still browsing/viewing your photos OR
- both of the above
We have our own ideas of how to do this, but it's a fairly complex beast to attack, so when we do we want to do it the best possible way.
Feedback and suggestions are always encouraged and appreciated. Keep coming back - our appetite for user feedback is voracious!
Thanks,
Kramer
I’m happy to help!

Inappropriate? For me, the ideal implementation of this would be a service that runs in the background all the time and monitors a directory (my photos?) for new pics, then auto-uploads the pictures in the background.
It would need the ability to throttle so it wouldn't consume all my bandwidth on the initial upload. The ability to recover gracefully from an interrupted internet connection would be nice.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Tom,
Thanks for coming back and post your thoughts again on this topic. Based on what you said we picked a few things that you want to see as a "background sync" feature in snapact:
1) auto-detecting changes to an already published album (we assume that's what you meant by "a directory")
2) background sync can be interrupted but can also be resumed (automatically)
3) manage the bandwidth consumption of background sync so that it doesn't bring your computer's internet usage down to its knees.
I consider all of the above are useful and meaning requests for a good "background sync" feature. We hear you and will log this for future development.
Thanks again for your insightful comments and suggestions.

Inappropriate?I've returned with the same question in my first post! After a couple of months, are there any plans, or perhaps a roadmap line item to implement background synchronization?
For a realworld example of this, Today I am using mozy.com to do backups of my photos. Another service that I will likely switch to is backblaze.com because of the improvements in the client software.
Keep in mind, both of those are designed as disaster recovery solutions, so this isnt an apples to apples comparison, but they handle background synchronization _very_ well.
If I could get that level of auto-updating in the background with a photo sharing site, I could kill two birds with one stone, and I'd be willing to pay for it!
I’m interested

Inappropriate?Hello Tom,
Both back ground sync and now back up services are actually on the product roadmap. For specific timeline, I can't really say. But I am serious when I say that both features are on the product roadmap. I know that Snapact may face the risk of losing customers like you if we don't act quick enough.
We checked out Mozy.com and it is well implemented. Nevertheless, we think that Snapact has a natural framework for us to plug in the future "back up" service.
As for background sync, it is just the matter of scheduling our resource to achieve it.
Once we have any updates on these two features, I will keep you posted.
Hope you will stick around or we will be good enough to lure you back, Tom.
Best
