Owners to be able to disable the music player
I'm concerned about not being able to easily monitor copyright violations in terms of music uploaded to my network.
Could the feature be made optional (to be decided by network owner)?

Inappropriate?I believe this is indeed planned and on our roadmap :)

Inappropriate? This is urgent. I've got members uploading music, and I don't want them to be able to. People just don't understand copyright.
-
Inappropriate? Can you please confirm when this will be implemented (I'm assuming this will be before SG/Zucko moves to be a paid-for service).
-
Inappropriate?i see the option in my admin now
-
Inappropriate?I don't believe it's copyright infringment unless you have embedds/links/downloads to share the music publicly with members. Posting your respective music is cool.
-
Yes it is copyright infringment unless your network has agreed with the music labels/ publishers ... like myspace and others Posting your respective music is illegal unles you have an agreement with the music publisher. The law is complicated but they do inforce the laws if they catch you. -
interesting, but if ning doesn't have this agreement with over 100,000 networks then I think were all good -
and thats exactly why some ning networks have gone all of a sudden....copyright issues both videos pics and music. -
Inappropriate?Ryan,
Though I can see the option to stop members being able to upload files, I don't have the option to remove it from view, which is what's needed. Unless I'm missing something?
And depending on where you are, it's my understanding that it's copyright infringement if you "publish" it on your page, unless you have the explicit permission of the music producer to put it on your web page, or are using a third-party widget which has pre-cleared the use. Sites like MySpace enter into agreements with music labels.
But I don't want to use my network to test the law with record labels. I just want to be able to remove the music player from public view
Others are welcome to carry on if they feel they don't have copyright issues, and there are networks for musicians/composers where it's entirely appropriate to use it.

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?Hey Tim,
This issue is two-fold... firstly you will be able to remove the option for them to remove it, this is coming very soon, and is what Ryan mentioned seeing a sneak preview of in the admin center.
Secondly, you'll be able to move the 'Music' block from profiles when the layout manager is released :)

Inappropriate?Great news. Thanks, Tom!
-
Inappropriate?No probs :)
-
Inappropriate? If you own a cd of the music then you can upload a copy to your profiles...you can not give that copy via a download...as long as SocialGO does not provide a download link then its safe for members to play the music on profiles.

Ryan
It's about publication issues. Check the law. -
Inappropriate?Message to be forwarded to the SG/Zocku Management team
MUSIC
As a network owner (gay adult network 6800 members) I don't want to infringe any copyright law.
This question should be clearly answered on a legal point of view in order to avoid legal consequences for the owner.
Please give an official answer on the subject and I will accept or remove all the music posted by members on my network
thanks for bringing a detailed answer soon,
Luckybiker
network owner (migrating from SG to Zocku )
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? How long before we will be able to stop the music player showing on member profiles?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hey Ivana,
The music player will be able to be disabled with the launch of the layout manager, however you can already forbid members from uploading MP3s by unticking the box next to "Upload a music file (beta)" in the 'Access Settings' part of your admin center.

Inappropriate?Where are we on disabling the music player (including the ICON, which is the biggest pain to have there) or other icons in the media widget?
