Personal member picture as indispensable requirement to sign up
Would be interesting to have the possibility to include a mandatory member picture field to sign up to the site if owner wanted.

Inappropriate?Hi Zelator,
Thanks for the idea. It will be passed on to the team and discussed. If enough people require this feature than it will be passed over to the development team. -
Inappropriate?Thanks :)
-
Inappropriate?I wold love to see that feature enabled and make it mandatory that htey have toput up a profiel to complete registeration. Please see if this can be done.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate? We definitely will consider guys :)

Tom.
I am still trying to know how to work this forum. Not sure where to post other than a reply.
I am happy with what I have. It took a short while to work it out, but I got there.
However, Ning has the edge in that the text box on their comment wall has a button
to upload pictures from the pc just as one would do with Microsoft Word.
Just by adding this for us poor people on the free platform, would make the sites
as versatile as a Ning site.
There are two ways to be the best. One is to be the only one or be better than anyone else.
The downside to Ning is that you can no longer search the Ning platform for sites that would be of interest to you. If the free platform was open to the public, it will bring in people who are looking for a paticular type of network. Getting people on the platform gives SocialGo the edge over Ning. Every person on the platform is a potential paying customer. I am only suggesting this for the free platform.
So when I am asked ' where can I find a network about this or that ', I can say,' look on SocialGo ' -
Inappropriate?yeah that would be great, because tons of women told me that they like having a picture or at least something to associate whom they are socializing with as there own individual. even if it is not an actual photo of themselves.
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to see it on the member signup page but also if you do let a member apply without a picture, I'd like to be able to "semi-deny" the membership and let the person know they must upload a picture so they can modify their application as opposed to denying them and having them start from scratch. I agree though, my members don't want people without pics.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I totally agree with N2deep; a total refusal of membership could frustrate a potential members, so that they may not return or forget about the site.
Although, the option (with stipulations) to require a profile photo would be a widely utilized feature.
I’m sticking my tounge out for fun!
-
Inappropriate?Fab feedback guys... will keep you updated with this after the next development meeting
-
Inappropriate? What have you decided about it Tom?
It would be real good :) -
Inappropriate? The mandatory profile photo requirement option would be a very beneficial feature/option for network owners to have. Please ask the development team to give this topic serious consideration. This feature/option would be indispensable to the success of my www.Blog.tv site. I currently have way to many people signing up using the generic photo icons. If people see an actual photo of a member, clearly the potential for social interaction is increased resulting in members becoming friends, thereby having more of a reason to contribute videos, photos, music etc. and returning to the site on a more consistent/frequent basis. Again, please ask the development team to give this topic serious consideration.
Thanks,

In our experience, you can use some human engineering to solve the problem.
Make the standard (and only available) network avatar one that is provocative enough to ensure that members CERTAINLY upload their own image instead.
For example:

Or something like this...
It always works to get people to change it on their own ;-)

Inappropriate?how can we make a photo liek that or do you have the way we can download it
-
Inappropriate?@Juicey
Just use any graphical editor or word processor or photo editor, then output the image as a .jpg or .gif file and size it to be a square around 100px by 100px or so.
You can also use screen grab programs such as http://skitch.com (MAC) or http://www.techsmith.com/screen-captu... (PC)

Inappropriate?EG,
I hate to think that SocialGo would put site owners in a position where they would have to insult their members (even if it’s in a playful manner) in order to create a more attractive and productive site. I hope that the developers take into account that this feature/option is very important to some of us and would strongly consider incorporating it into the next deploy. BTW, how would someone go about making a standard (and only available) network avatar for their network? -
Inappropriate?@Lou
I didn't say that this was the option coming from SocialGO, only that in WidgetLaboratory's experience... human engineering is usually the BEST "solution" of all.... even over any software solution.
;-)
My example image was designed to make the point to you in a dramatic and humerous way... not to be taken literally, of course.
WidgetLaboratory has two new widgets coming out for site owners and their members. LabPhoto and LabBadges. The first will give your members a way to snap and create funny avatar photos with fun "bling" on top... then use those as their avatar images. The second will give the site members a way to create branded site badges which can be used as Avatars (and include the site branded logo in the corner) or as embeddable badges when posting to other sites or blogs.
If you want to make a standard avatar, simply use screen grab programs such as http://skitch.com (MAC) or http://www.techsmith.com/screen-captu... (PC) and grab something interesting and scale it down to 100px by 100px, then go to your member profile page and click on your own avatar image. It will give you the option to upload the new avatar image right there.
Cheers!

Inappropriate?Hey EG,
You’re missing the point. That’s great that you’re coming out with new widgets for site owners that will among other things, give site members a way to snap and create funny avatar photos with fun "bling" on top... then use those as their avatar images. But I don’t want a new widget for my site that will give my members a way to snap and create funny avatar photos with fun "bling" on top... then use those as their avatar images. What I want is for SocialGo to understand that there are premium members who want the option of being able to require people who sign up on their sites to upload an actual photo of themselves instead of using one of the many available generic icons. It’s quite simple. If SocialGo can incorporate an access code feature in the access settings of the SocialGo Admin Center, then they could very easy incorporate a feature that would require new members to a given site, to upload a photo of themselves. -
I totally agree with this! -
Inappropriate?They understand...
-
Inappropriate?and can we change these default pictures ? or do we have to change them manually for every member ?
thx -
Inappropriate?Ahh, having a mandatory profile picture on sign-up is not a great idea, it will push some users away, I guarantee.
IF this feature is implemented... it needs to be switchable, as in the network owner must be able to turn it on or off. -
I totaliy agree Aaron and I have known people leave sites because of it.
If I signed up and was told 'no photo no membership', I would take the no membership option. -
@ Lester, thats your good right of course! But that also indicates that your not the type of member that network is looking for (if they have the "no photo,no membership" rule). -
Inappropriate?what is the current status ????
-
Inappropriate?I I spend now a lot of time, to force members when they appear online to change profile picture in a real picture.
When it's a required option, then they forced directly to add a real picture.
Hope that this will be implemented, this spend me less more time.
-
Inappropriate?Anyone can upload a picture for their profile but how would you know
it is the person's photo or not.
Also, a member may need to conceal their identity for to evade a stalker for instance.
A member may have to decline joining your site because they do not have a photo to upload. I was months without a photo of me.
Best to give the site creator the option if it is to be implemented. -
Not all site owners that want members to upload a picture when they sign up are asking for a face pic... :) -
Inappropriate?Give the potential new member the option to upload a main profile photo when they join or afterwards. From my own personal experience I have discovered that most people will upload a photo if they want to remain in any community if its stated up front that a profile photo is required. There are a few who are lazy and won't - most of these types are unlikely to interact with others (and vice versa). Stalkers are always going to be around BUT the real problem are the scam and spam schemers who generate private messages to solicit others to join their sites. I been dealing with that for two years in another network I own. The SaaS there allows me to view the subject headers of all messages and flags repetitive private message posts since most spammers use the same text scripts. Members who receive private messages ALSO have the option of reporting SPAM after they have logged in.That's always going to be a problem that network owners are going to have to deal with
