Inappropriate?By which I just realised, I really meant the Social Rank algorithm. I'm trying to figure out what the relationship is between frequency of mentions, last mention, and number of sources, but cannot. I would really like to use the social rank but cannot do in any meaningful way until/unless I know how it's being calculated. You can say "we use frequency, recency, tenure... and some other stuff" (like Twittergrader for example) but you do need to say something about this at least. Unless I'm really missing something here?
I’m undecided

Inappropriate? Thanks for letting us know Brendan. We've gotten a few inquiries regarding this algorithm. We'll be implementing an FAQ to answer many of these questions. However, Social Rank is based on an equation that weights heavily on recency and frequency of posts.

what does the /100 mean ie what is the 100 ? -
Inappropriate? Thanks for responding. I realise you might not want to give away all the details but it would make the metric much more meaningful if you could make it more transparent.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Totally agree; would be very helpful to understand how the index is calculated.

Inappropriate?has this question been asnwered yet ???????
I am still very unclear about what social rank means ? -
Inappropriate? The social rank metrics now changed into percentages, which doesn't really help when looking up a niche topic, as it would only give a zero %.
Also how come iphone gets only 55% out 100, surely that's not correct?

Inappropriate?CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT SOCIAL RANK MEANS ???
-
Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Social rank, like any other metric, is meant as a gauge of brand visibility from the available social media data. The meteric is basically the likelihood that your brand is being discussed from the social media sources that were searched. It's based on a simple equation: mentions divided by a constant (data limit) within a given set of time (last couple of days). -
Inappropriate?I remember back when Social Mention used to have a higher social rank median, keywords tended to be able to jump greater numerical distances (eg., from 40% to 48% instead of from 5% to 6%), and some big brands were even able to get perfect scores of 100%, and that made sense to me since I would see those brand names mentioned in real conversation on a daily basis.
I realize that after the overhaul, the denominator (# possible mentions) had probably more than doubled in the interest of being able to track more mentions, so I kind of expected a drop in the strength scores but I'm still having trouble reconciling old social ranks with the new strength metric for keywords I've been tracking for a while.
Would it be too much if we asked to know what the data limit was before or # possible mentions, compared to what it is now? If so, that would be great. If not, don't feel like you need to divulge any trade secrets. :)

Inappropriate?Hi Nico,
We did switch the "social index" to "strength" metric, and is now more accurate in terms of a gauge of how prevalent a search term is within conversations going on in social media. We use constant to help measure this such as, taking a very popular topic, ex "obama" and using that as "a very high strength" and comparing your search term to that.
