I can see Socialthing becoming my go-to source for all things social online, but I have to be able to remove people from the stream on the spot.
Facebook has the give me more or less of this person feature, but it's not as effective as the ability to completely remove someone from the stream who is a fan.
I mentioned this to Brian already, but thought I'd post here as well.
I've added a few services and pressed I'm done. When I go to another section I get the message "You don't appear to have any services added. Go to the My Services page to add some now."
With LiveJournal's recent sale to a Russian company, and its previous issues with user suspensions (google "livejournal strikeout"), many former LiveJournal users have moved to clones such as GreatestJournal, InsaneJournal, or JournalFen. It would be nice if you could add support for arbitrary Livejournal clones, and I'd be happy to help out with the coding if you needed it.
I couldn't read anything anyone was posting on twitter in SocialThing but has assumed it was just due to issues twitter seemed to be having. I then saw today however that other people where using it fine with no problem. So I decided I might try deleting and re-adding my twitter account to see if that fixed thing. To my shock, the account was sitting there stating "Reauthenticate".
The only sign I had that I needed to do this was when I looked at the account settings and saw that text. Would be a lot better if some message or something similar was displayed that you could see from the FriendStream when this was needed.
When you first sign up and start adding services, it's very easy to accidentally click on the "facebook" link instead of the "+add" link. this takes you to facebook. wouldn't be a big deal, except when you come back you've lost all of the work you've done to add services to the right hand pane, or so it appears (it's empty). so i add them all again, being careful not to make that mistake. when i hit "ok, i'm done", it turns out that many of the services are there twice (so it did remember them, the UI just didn't agree with it).
i bloody love this even 2 mins in!! good work guys this is much much better than friendfeed. would like a few more services like jaiku, last.fm and stuff but i imagine that's coming :)
How do I integrate all of my friends' updates? On Friendfeed, I have the ability to add friends. With Socialthing!, I'm guessing that those updates that I DO see are from those who already have a Socialthing! acct. Help?!?
There are a lot of services that I'd like added to ST. Frankly, I believe it's a great idea, but without such extensive support the goal of having one destination only is impossible to reach, for me at least, at this point. For a list of what I'd like to be supported, take a look at what Ping.fm supports. Highlights for me: Jaiku, Plurk, identi.ca.
For each service when something new comes up in my lifestream (everything i've done) you should make it so each service is grouped together like it is on friendfeed. For example for Digg it could say you have dugg 12 stories and there is an expand button so you can see them all separately. This would be really helpful for people who have a lot of services or post a lot.
This is a really great service, but I would like the option of either customizing the GUI or switching between a number of predefined themes. Mainly for the Friendstream, which is suffering from a number of minor design flaws. Mostly unnecessary clutter, the boxes and header backgrounds get in the way of seeing the actual posts. These design elements wastes a lot of screen real estate without really adding anything, intuitively or aesthetically.
Attached is a quick mockup to support my argument.
