Shutdown tracing

Tracking for shutdown process.

I've used xbootmgr in the past and it revealed that one process did not close at all until windows forced it to do so. By default windows waits for 20sec (AFAIR) before force closing so that was the reason for long shutdown times.

It would be nice if Soluto could also detect these type of problems

In the depths of our system, the boot is just one type of an "Operational Event", others being shutdown, hibernate, wake from hibernate, sleep, etc.

The technology is able to analyze shutdown just the same as it analyzes the boot, now it's a matter of priorities and what most users care more about. We know many would love to shorten their shutdown, but many more would like to shorten their boot. We will add this in the future.

I usually hibernate, only rebooting monthly or so when I need to. For me, making it hibernate and restore faster (and more reliably. But it's rare for it to fail) is the most helpful.

i can only add to this beeing a very good future feature for soluto!

Will the program be split into 3 different submenues to get a better overview?
1. Boot
2. Windows idle/paused apps etc.
3. Shutdown/Hibernate/Standby

I like this idea but with a twist... How about Soluto automatically stopping its service immediately after it reports the bootup-time, remaining off until a shutdown/restart is issued, at which time it re-starts the service. This way, there's no resource-consumption by a needless service running between startup and shutdown/restart! ;)

  The only problem with that, is the frustration monitoring software would not be working if it was stopped. I think it would be best to focus on making the program as light weight as possible.

  Aaron we do a whole lot more than simply optimize the boot time. This is simply our first beta release, so at the moment the focus is on boot, but we also monitor and research in the background for PC frustrations. With the data we research from computers all over the world, we will be able to automatically solve frustrations in future products.
  We do, as Richard said, try to be as light weight as possible, and keep improving on that as we go along.

  Would it be possible to make the program in parts? My concept would be that you have 2 different Soluto "pieces," one that does the boot and one that does the frustration monitoring, and then have a small program that connects the two. That way when the boot process is done then that can "close" while the other part monitors any problems. I'm not sure how possible that is, or if I even came across clearly, but it would allow the computer usage to decrease while still helping the user get a better experience.

I like this idea, although I would prefer to see the focus on "startup" items first. The additional features already being considered, such as individual "paused" item startup are more important to me. Soluto is excellent at what it does and it's nice to see the motivation to improve. Thank you!

I have certainly experienced instances where a computer or a server may hang on shutdown, but they tend to be rare, and have a much lower over all impact on productivity in my opinion. What I would like to see is a feature that would allow users to maintain greater uptime, perhaps by tracking services and processes known to be buggy and cause one to need to reboot.

Using the idea of tracing, and after using the program for a good time, i've noticed that i can't see wich program spent more time on each start. I need to take note on a worksheet to get a better picture that, each time windows starts, each program takes a miriad of different times to load. If i had a log, or better, a graphic with the first 5 or 10 programs that are most time expensive to load, would be great, to get the guilty ones and decide what ot do about! The same picture could be used in terms of shutting down.

absolutely great idea, but i need it more in the area of hibernation because the shutdown is already preety damn quick with win7 then before with vista or xp.

  My hibernation is iffy no matter what OS I use because I tend have to many apps running at the same time. Win7's sleep capabilities are really good though (I had a VM, 2 or 3 browsers, Thunderbird, and all my normal background apps running and it took just a few minutes to go to sleep/wake up).
