I would like to make Songbird my default player. However, as far as I can see there is not an option to do so. I came across this problem or idea, when I disassociated Windows Media Player from playing any music formats. As a result, when I clicked a song in Windows Explorer it did not know how to handle the situation and asked me which program I would like to open the file. I found the Songbird.exe file and clicked OK. The song began to play in Songbird. However, these settings will only apply to this particular song. Each different song you double click in Windows Explorer will ask you again to choose a program from the list.
I think support should be added for a default program feature as well as integration features into Windows such as a Songbird icon attached to songs in Windows Explorer telling the user the file will be associated and played in Songbird.
During installation of Songbird beta I checked a box that would allow for updating of the iTunes library when a track was played in Songbird. Playing a track in Songbird 0.7.0 does not update the iTunes library with the played track.
Songbird is attempting to merge the web browsing experience with music, why not build a torrent client program (http://www.tracktrap.com/whatis.php) into Songbird. Torrents are a large part of the online music community. Of course, torrents lead into legality. Does Songbird support the illegal download of music? No, of course not. You cannot control the content your users access on the web.
Torrents have a dark side as all technology, but can prove to be a useful tool. I use my torrent client program to download legal live music, live concert videos, and demos all the time. Recently, Nine Inch Nails released "The Slip" for free in multiple formats. If you chose from the given formats the much larger FLAC or 24/48, the site provided you with a torrent file. If a major band recognizes and promotes the use of torrents, it might be a good prospect to include this function into Songbird.
Songbird is shaping up to be a great product. Good work guys.
It becomes apparent that eventually there will be some form of integration with online music stores, and as such integration with password recollection software would be great.
So guys, any idea when we can expect a 1password integration?
It would be very nice to have Jamendo (www.jamendo.com) integration with Songbird to enable users to discover more free media. I hope you consider it sometime in the tuture
Apperently, a skin isn;t enough for mozilla users, especially those who like listening to music while browsing
songbird should have:
1) compatability with most mozilla addons especially videodownloadhelper, netvideohunter, mediaplayerconnectivity (although i have found DownThemAll to be compatible with songbird)
2) Retro games like pacman, pinpong, cards, snake, tetris, etc. (prefferably a new menu)
I could use mozilla, but i just love songbird and it crashes less than mozilla abd has almost all its features
