Watch-folder is the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT feature that is missing from Songbird. When this feature is added, expect everyone to ditch iTunes once and for all. Songbird will become the mainstream iPod software.
My ipod (5th gen 60GB video) takes forever to mount in songbird. Typically between 30 and 60 minutes. After it mounts it operates correctly. I'm running songbird in Ubuntu 8.04.
I can convert 100+ people to songbird (including myself) but that won't happen until you implement iPod Touch / iPhone Device support.
I can't understand why a feature so important isn't in the roadmap. I have 3 non-apple software products that sync perfectly with these devices, so this is function is entirely possible.
I hope this message won't be forgotten, and we get a response from the team.
note: I've installed Songbird several times since the first beta ever hit the net, this feature is very important to me and all my friends and co-workers.
The only problem with Songbird for me is that I can't randomly fill iPod like I would in iTunes. Furthermore, Songbird can't convert files on the fly, so that my Shuffle could get more songs (I've got my collection in mp3 320, which is unnecessary for Shuffle). Any idea how to do that with Songbird? If not, can this be implemented via the Songbird or some addon?
I have a 4th Gen iPod (greyscale) which won't show up in songbird but does appear on the desktop, in rhythmbox and banshee. I am on Ubuntu hardy 64bit. using songbird 0.6. Here are a couple of things i have tried:
Restoring the iPod firmware using iTunes (latest version)
Restoring the iPod using ipod updater and an earlier level of firmware
After trying both of these i have added some tracks to the iPod using itunes as i can remember having problem before with ubuntu if you don't let itunes setup the database
My wifes 2nd gen iPod mini shows up and works fine in songbird so i think it must be something relating to the iPod firmware or similar.
I have tried several "how to" sites and tutorials to solve this problem. No success yet. My OS is Ubuntu Hardy, and I have Songbird 0.7.0 with the ipod-3.0.9.716 addon installed.
The iPod is a 6th generation classic w. 80GB.
When I connect my iPod, Songbird is running and the device appears in the sidebar. I used iTunes to "restore" the iPod to factory settings, and there is no media on the device at all.
I have tried setting the iPod on both manual and sync modes, I have tried drag-and-drop and the sync button. Nothing seems to work, and pressing "Sync" only causes Songbird to freeze. I have tried letting it work, leaving it for several hours, and the app was still unresponsive.
I always sync my ipod manually with songbird, but it isn't working. Specifically, I use a playlist that I frequently wipe out and add different songs. But songbird isn't completely wiping out the playlist.
I tried completely deleting and recreating the playlist, but when I unplugged the ipod, songbird had deleted the playlist but not recreated it.
Well, songbird should really have iPod touch and iPhone support with Party Shuffle, Smart PLaylists and Ringtones. It should also be included in a little add-on called Foxytunes for Mozilla and for some reason the Minimize to tray of V .6 doesn't work. Although, i've been waiting for a player like this. (In-built browser, supports all media formats, not to mention customizable with add-ons and the ability to import an iTunes library). It's fantastic, but as is said, iPod Touch support is needed
I have a 5th Generation Ipod Video (30Gb) which Songbird just won't recognise. I'm using the latest 0.7.0 beta of songbird, and the latest version of the ipod support plug in (3.0.9.716), with windows XP.
I've tried everything suggested in posts by those with similar problems, from restoring the ipod in itunes, formatting the ipod (Fat 32) from within windows, creating a new profile within songbird. I've tried it both with itunes installed and without.
The ipod shows up in windows and works fine under itunes : s
All help greatly appreciated, because i really want to get this working.
I was trying to help with solving bugzilla #11302 (Track rating not written to iPod) by checking if #8024 (iPod ratings are wrong) is still an issue since it lays out the fix for broken ratings, but I cannot find the source.
How do I find a way to sync the album artwork onto my ipod nano 3rd generation? The 3rd generation nano has a "cover flow" feature which I would really like to use with songbird. Thanks!
I recently downloaded iMesh so that I can download songs. I'm using Songbird, because all of the songs on iMesh are DRM protected, so iTunes won't accept them. I am able to get the songs onto Songbird, but they won't sync to my iPod. What am I supposed to do now? I created a playlist and drag-and-dropped some of the songs in there, but I have over 60 songs, and I don't want to have to do that for every song. I also tried selecting all the songs and dragging them into the playlist, but every time I do that, they either replace the songs already there, or they add to the list one at a time, and then they still don't always end up on my iPod.
great app! just need to figure out one problem to attain perfection: i can get songbird to recognize my ipod nano by right-clicking the nano icon on the desktop and choosing "open with" > songbird. but just seems to mix the nano's songs in with my regular library. i'm not seeing an ipod section to show up on the left panel nor anyway to configure, copy to or copy from the nano. {Version: Songbird/0.6.1 on fedora 8}
I have just got a western digital world book NAS and hacked it so it works as a full linux box, it would be excellent if you could run songbird on it, plug yout ipod in and then use the web interface to sync the ipod and itunes library - the reason this would be so good is 1) The standard itunes doesnt allow you to sync to a shared library, 2) Convieniance as would be possible to add music to ipod without turning on pc.
I've been using iTunes to manage my music for a long time, and I want to get out from behind the Pewter Curtain. I was hoping Songbird might be the answer. If I can sync the songs I've bought on iTunes with, say, a Creative Zen, it would definitely provide a lot more incentive to switch, although I'm not sure on the legality on this. If possible, this would probably also attract a lot of others in my position to Songbird.
I'm having major problems with Songbird. I have a Windows XPS 400, and using Songbird 0.7.0. I also use Qtrax to download my songs. I can import my songs to Songbird, but I can't play them, or upload them to my iPod. When I try to sync my iPod, it starts, but then stops and goes to Idle. What am I supposed to do about this? A message comes up and says that the files are unsupported.
I don't know if this is a problem or a question because I could be doing something wrong with the software since I just got it today.
I have an iPod and finally got fed up with iTunes so I found Songbird. I downloaded it and the iPod add-on and the iTunes library tool. Here is where the problem starts.
When I have Songbird open and I plug in my iPod it says "Mounting Device" which I assume is normal. THe only thing is that it takes forever and when I have windows task manager open, I can see the memory usage for the program go out of control. Like up to 700,000 in one case before I closed the program. It seems to do this at a higher rate when I try to move my library to the iPod. I have a large music collection and I don't think my computer will survive if I let it sync the entire thing.
However, I love the software and the idea, keep up the good work
