I get an NSIS Error window when I try to install on Windows. How do I fix it?

Bird fans,

We've heard from a few of you that you're getting an error when you try to install the 0.7.0 release on your Windows machines. The window title is "NSIS Error", and the first line of text in the window is "The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete." If you're seeing this message, we suspect that you have an incomplete download of the product.

To figure out if you have a complete download, right-click on the installer and select Properties. Check the Size. It should say "16.1 MB (16,974,961 bytes)". If your installer is smaller than this, you didn't get the whole thing! Download it again from http://getsongbird.com.

Let us know if this fixes your problem or if you need more help.

Hi, I'm dual-booting (Vista+Ubuntu) and I'm trying to make Songbird's preferences and library synced between the two OSes. Since Songbird is a XULRunner app like Firefox or Thunderbird, I thought it'd be as easy as it is for the two aforementioned apps: Edit profiles.ini in both OSes to make it point to the same location. Turns out it's not that easy: Everything seems to work, but Songbird can't play anything in Ubuntu, I presume this is because the path to each file in the library looks like F:\Music\Artist\Song.ogg in Windows while it looks like /media/Data/Music/Artist/Song.ogg in Linux. I've tried creating a symbolic link called "f:" and another one called "F:" at the root of my filesystem, pointing to /media/Data, but no such luck: Songbird won't play any music, showing this error in the error console:
"Error: 2152857618
Source File: file:///usr/share/Songbird/components/sbPlaylistPlayback.js
Line: 1182"

Is there any way to make both profile directories synced without these path problems?

I have been trying to make gstreamer the default playback core for Songbird on Windows XP SP2. I added the environment variable by going to System Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables and adding a variable in System Variables called Songbird gstreamer containing the line "SB_GST_ENABLE=all" without the quotes. However, when playing a song and going to tools -> show current core it usually says VLC1, WindowsMedia, or Qucktime, never gstreamer. I have the Current Core Info installed by the way. Also I am using Songbird 0.7 RC3 and I really want to try gstreamer playback.

This is a problem. I'll be sticking to my decent media player but still search for an acceptable open source alternative. I'm not going to slaughter you guys since you're still beta and WIP but I think it's important to let you know that ram usage is still important in these days of aero and beryl and other ridiculously taxing things. How about simple, straight forward and working?

I've downloaded today the songbird for windows XP/Vista, and i have the XP with safari installed. When the download had concluded and i tried to open the file {.download(!?)}
, it only opens the safari again! What can i do?

Songbird will no longer start?

I can no longer get Songbird to launch. When I try to open the program I only get a message that states: "Songbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Songbird process, or restart your system."

This is occurring on a few-hours-old install of Win XP Pro with SP3, fully updated. I have installed Songbird 0.6.1. I have tried to restart my system, but still receive the message. Task Manager does not list Songbird as a process (unless it uses an obscure name I don't know about). I have tried resetting the profile to no avail. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Songbird and still get the error message.

I'm stumped, any thoughts?

As I mentioned in several discussions before, I would love a port or similar setup like Personas for Firefox for Songbird. Easy on the fly color changes to the existing wonderful standard feathers, supported, and with much love created skins by POTI.
People always tend to like and dislike colors. One likes black, the other white, the next one blue, and so on. You get, what I'm aiming at.
Why confine Songbird to one choice, if the program is capable of playing octopus?
If Firefox can do it, I think Songbird can, too.

You keep the brand recognition, that mainly consist of the buttons and the layout, while giving the user the ability to choose and create his own design, by simply creating a jpg. It is THAT easy.

Please have a look at the Personas for Firefox Link and share your opinion on this Topic.

Make Songbird Default Player Button

I would like to make Songbird my default player. However, as far as I can see there is not an option to do so. I came across this problem or idea, when I disassociated Windows Media Player from playing any music formats. As a result, when I clicked a song in Windows Explorer it did not know how to handle the situation and asked me which program I would like to open the file. I found the Songbird.exe file and clicked OK. The song began to play in Songbird. However, these settings will only apply to this particular song. Each different song you double click in Windows Explorer will ask you again to choose a program from the list.

I think support should be added for a default program feature as well as integration features into Windows such as a Songbird icon attached to songs in Windows Explorer telling the user the file will be associated and played in Songbird.

I would very much like a nightly update system, like it is in place with Firefox. Could that be possible?

Downloading the new nightly, de-installing the old one and installing the new one isn't THAAAT much of a hassle, but it's just so fancy and convenient, if you just don't have to.

What do you think?

Just wondering if there is going to be more development on video for songbird? I can only play MP4's. I reckon if you made it like WMP11, how it allows the video to play in the same player, instead of in a separate window, and gave support for all codecs, even .MKV etc, and added video controls, like aspect-ratio, full screen, hot keys etc etc etc, this would be a killer app. Its already my main music management app and i use it for most of my browsing.. needs support for Facebook though!!. But if it played videos and DVD really well, a lot of people wouldn't need any other software. Keep up the good work.

situation:
running windows xp. got to 19" screens. left is the main screen, right is the second screen, both got the same resolution. if then move the window the the right screen and hit the maximize button.

expected result:
the window takes up the full available space on the right screen.

actual result:
the window seems to move the the third (?) screen next to the right screen. but i do only have two screens... so i cant access the window again (okay, by choosing an option from the context menu i got from the taskbar).

Two of the most popular media players with everyone I know are Winamp and iTunes. Why don't you see what makes them great to use then incorporate that into Songbird in a way unique to Songbird. One MAJOR thing that is missing is Winamp's Equalizer. It can save/load eq files which is required because my headphones have different audio acoustics than my surround sound. Please figure out what people use from both and then integrate it into Songbird. A few different Feathers by default would help because of the great ability of Songbird to run on multiple OS's (XP = blue or silver, Vista = black and shiney, Ubuntu = orange and blue (human) )
