5.1 Sound Not Working. Rear speakers quiet.
So far I've been unable to get my rear speakers to work with Songbird 1.0.0. I'm running a 5.1 setup with a newer Audigy Soundblaster card on Ubuntu.
I can verify the proper functionality of my setup with : speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav
and my speaker config works fine in Amorak.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hi,
I am new to songbird and do not know your config in linux w/ amorak. however I am also on a SoundBlaster XFi platform on Vista 64 with Logitech 5.1 speakers and can confirm that SongBird (is this a coincidence that both are abbreviated SB?) does not support surround - in terms of playback enhancement there is nothing yet (unfortunately putting it at par with iTunes).
I have just posted a request to add DSPs (foobar-style) to SB to implement 5.1 support. In the meanwhile you can use SoundBlaster Volume Panel and enable CMSS 3D (not as good as foobar2000 w/ Free Surround DSP - but better than nothing).
hope this helps, if so please support my implementation request
I’m sad

Inappropriate? My issue is with a Ubuntu 8.04LTS and Sound Blaster Audigy and I have test the speaker setup with:
1speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav
And my speaker config works fine, I have tested the speakers also in LastFM program and others and sound comes out 5.1.
I should add that I'm currently only streaming audio via ShoutCast, all my music is on my WinXP machine that crashed a few days ago.
I’m wanting 5.1 in Songbird

Inappropriate? This is my main gripe with Songbird. A good sound player should sound good, shouldn't it? I have Songbird installed, but actually not using it till it implements nicer sound and a more complete and reliable library system. I'm more satisfied with Foobar 2000 right now.
I’m disappointed with sound in Songbird

Inappropriate?I have windows 7 and 5.1 surround sound set up and soon to be upgrading to a 7.1 because our pc is our media center but Songbird does not work on my rear speakers. My music is on often and i have a lot of high quality music Id like to have full surround with. I thought maybe my speakers were shot but when we watch movies and Play pc games the sound is perfect. This really should be fixed.
I’m hoping that Songbird will support upto 5.1 surround sound soon

Inappropriate?I'm running Windows 7 (7100 RC) with Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers. I've run the speaker tests in windows and they are all working fine though in songbird (and iTunes too it appears) only the front two and sub have any output.
I have the same situation as Mysitisu with games running fine with dynamic surround but just not music :(
I’m wanting songbird to fix this

Inappropriate?Supporting surround/multi-channel would be a way for Songbird to differentiate itself. I can't understand why it is not on the roadmap.
I’m sad over a missed opportunity

Inappropriate?Would be great if SongBirs had support not only for AC3 and AAC playback, but also digital through on AC3 (unless it has that already). But what would be really fantactic is ambisonic playback.
