A few usability ideas
There are a few simple GUI design modifications that I believe would make it somewhat more usable. First, make it so that when the the Library tab is selected, the cursor always remains in the search bar.(unless editing a track title, etc) This saves the user the time of clicking on the bar. Second, make the standard play/pause and track switching hotkeys active no matter what portion of the Library tab is active. Both of these allow for more efficient usage of the interface, and should be relatively easy to change.

Inappropriate?Ah, one more: When a new song begins playing, automatically snap to its position. (instead of requiring the user to click on the song title to go there)

there is an add-on called focustrack for this, but I agree it should be built in -
Focus Track doesn't work properly for me. -
I dont think mine is anymore either i havent been paying much attention to it -
Inappropriate?I made a topic a while ago about the space bar and controls not working when filters are selected in the media view: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
I agree that it can be a pain when you are in the Songbird window and expect the space bar to pause playback but it does not. There is an open bug/feature request for it that we can vote on here: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
As for snapping to the song's position, perhaps this add-on does what you are looking for: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...

Inappropriate?I have to not agree with the constant focus on the search text box, I personally don't use that to play my music.
I do totally agree with the hotkeys, we need a better system for that.

Inappropriate?and to add on to Stevos reply, if you begin typing inside the library view, it wll navigate to that section - whether it be one character ('j') or a few ('jack') ...

I'd love this, quick dynamic filtering, and what else are you going to use the keyboard for? Keyboard shortcuts can use Ctrl modifiers.
