Album art issue - recognising folder.jpg in album folders
My music collection is based on albums, one album is in its own folder, then all the album folders in the Music folder. Separate singles downloaded from blogs are in a folder 'Others' (FYI, irrelevant to the idea). Anyway, I am completely anal about my collection and have spent hours downloading the album art and placing them in their respective folders. They are all named 'folder.jpg'
Mediaflow doesn't pick up my album art, neither does the album art pane at the bottom-left.
Is there any way that when i click on any song that the album art will display the 'folder.jpg' from that songs' album folder? Or even just that Songbird will recognise album art not embedded in the ID3 tag?
All I know is that Winamp 5.X has this function.
Thanks!

great suggestion, we're currently working on it! we expect it will land in the next release :)

@all
There is now an add-on to help you recognize the artwork in your folders.
AlbumArtPreferences
Yay! no more about:config settings!
And for the current issue of assigning the image to only to the first track in an album: that will be fixed in Isan (1.2) Bug 15747
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I just installed SB for the first time and am impressed with its ease of use and the fact that I can play my library of FLAC files. However I too have exactly the same problem as the original poster - all albums are in their own folders with folder.jpg files for the album art. I am also anal about my library and it works fine in Soft Squeeze and foobar2000. Shouldn't take much to add this functionality to SongBird and then I'll be fully converted!

Inappropriate?I have the same problem with SB, both Winamp and WMP, and foobar can do it, I won't adjust my collection for one media player when all the other programs can do it.

Inappropriate?one more vote for recognising folder.jpg!
I reckon a large chunk of windows users have their art stored this way (Whether they realise it or not!), because that's how WMP likes to do it. Convert the masses!

Inappropriate?I have the opposite problem... my artwork should be embedded in the mp3 files, but it's not displaying.
anyone know how to get at the embedded artwork? -
Inappropriate?One more vote for this.

They already said it will be implemented, please stop replying to the thread -
and yet 7 months later it still doesn't work !! -
Inappropriate?2 requests regarding this implementation:
Look for folder.jpg, then *.jpg (or specified name).
Also, do not embed the found .jpg file into the mp3 themselves. My entire collection is .sfv verified with .sfv files for individual albums and folders, by embedding album art directly into the file, it breaks my CRC check.
Winamp's implementation works exactly this way, as well as having an option to embed album art into mp3 if you wish. Not embedding album art also saves space.

Inappropriate?embedding the album art vs the file pointing to the art is a big controversy.
personally, the way itunes does it (there's a pointer in the itunes music library file that tells where the art is) is decent, but it sucks when sharing music, the mp3 is artless...
I prefer embedding. i size all my album art to 500x500 (looks great on the ipod, decent size for detail on a monitor) and they come out to around 200k at the most... so roughly an extra Mb per 5 songs... it's worth it to me to not have to have some mechanism for keeping up with your album art.
the folder.jpg method (i think Win Media Player?) is also decent, Songbird should definitely look for a folder.jpg when importing songs... but your mp3s have to be organized by album for that to work. also i think folder.jpg is a retarded filename. how about using something a little more... descriptive? like Album\ Art.jpg or even take the metadata tag for the album and name the jpg using it.
for those of you that don't know, the \ in Album\ Art.jpg is an escape character. It's there intentionally. -
Inappropriate?I agree that folder.jpg is actually a poor implementation. However, I get my music without embedded art, and it has been verified previously by .sfv. This way, I can run a .sfv check on my collection to see if any file has been altered or damaged in any way. Embedding art or changing tags breaks the entire CRC so it's difficult to tell if it's a damaged file or has just been altered.
When you are dealing with enormous collections, this gives some piece of mind.
This is important with online sharing as well, as you can verify what you have is an exact copy of the original.
Itunes does not search for any .jpg in the folder in order to display it. It's a poor implementation in my opinion. The ml_pod Winamp implementation is the most versatile and complete I have seen.
I really love Songbird but coming from Windows to OSX, getting art work to display and sync with my iPod without embedded artwork has become a huge pain.
After playing with some of the RC's and now 1.0, songbird is displaying my art from .jpgs in the folder just fine, not sure why it isn't able to sync it so it displays on my iPod. So I guess my request is to get this working so I can give iTunes the boot!

Inappropriate?Regardles of what the company says and the bug tracker summary -- songbird still is not recognizing folder.jpg images.
are there any updates on when this will work?
that, and the lack of an equalizer are total deal killers for us.

Inappropriate?Still not working for me either.
I believe there should be an order for which method to take for showing album folders:
1.folder.jpg
2.albumart.jpg
3.albumart*.jpg
4.*.jpg
I’m sad
-
Indeedy :) But it should also support PNG images as well. -
Inappropriate? When importing new songs to my library, and the songs folder contains a cover.jpg, it shows up perfectly. Therefore i reimported my songs into the library after the 1.0 release...and got all my covers up in songbird now :-)
I’m contented
-
Inappropriate? It should also recognize the art wmp11 places. It's just some random-named (think so) hidden file in the folder.
I’m quite a nice guy
-
Inappropriate? No no no. It's a bad habit using the album art stored in the music folder (WMP is guilty for that). The album art info should be taken from the tag of the songs. What if you have all the songs in the same folder? What if you transfer the songs to your mp3 player?

I have 9000 tracks and a 32 inch monitor. anything below 450x450 looks like crap. adding the art to the metadata would result in at least ten gigs more wasted space, as I have some high res album art which is over 1.5 megs. plus, this is a very common program default. not saying it has to be the only way, just want it to be viable way, as I imagine the majority of people would agree. -
Inappropriate?Oh no,
from these posts I understand folder.jpg won't work ?
I have just tried Songbird for the first time but unfortunately this is a showstopper. I have more than 18000 songs. Most (16.000) of them are organized by albums.
Folder.jpg is more or less standard for many programs.
i.e. I am using MediaPortal (great Program for couch potatoes) MediaPortal works excellent with folder.jpg while ID3 Tags can not allways store the album art in the tag (space issues depending on versions and other information in the tag)

Inappropriate?folder.jpg/folder.png is highly common under windows. It also has the advantage that if you organise your folders by artist\album then you can have a folder.jpg for your artist too.

Still doesn't work at all for me.
Using Songbird 1.1.2 on Ubuntu 8.10 x64 -
Inappropriate? It does not look like wildcards are allowed for filenames, could this be supported as well?
*folder*.jpg or even *.jpg
