Album art not displaying in 0.7.0 Beta
I am using the new 0.7.0 beta on Ubuntu 8.04 32bit and the new built in album art pane is not displaying album art from the id3 tags. I have tried playing numerous files which have album art embedded in the id3 tags but I just get the standard CD image for when there is no artwork.
When I installed Songbird I deleted the .songbird2 folder from my home directory and only installed the recommended add-ons from the first run wizard.
This used to work fine in the release candidates.
Am I missing something?

Inappropriate?You need this extension :
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/102 -
Inappropriate? You should not need an extra addon if the art is in the id3 tag. It is strange that it is not working for you. It works for me on Ubuntu 8.04 32-bit. Could you check with a 3rd party app to ensure your songs are tagged correctly and the images do exist. Maybe you accidentally deleted something else when deleting .songbird2.
-
Inappropriate?I can not install the addon as the install button is greyed out.
Will remove and re-install songbird and try again... thanks for the info ashughes, I must have done something silly...
I’m gonna give it another go
-
The addon needs to be updated for 0.7.0final. Please periodically check the addon site for updates. -
Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. I use the zune marketplace to download the music, and they album art definitely shows in the zune software. It also plays perfectly in Songbird, but no album aru
I’m sad, because I love album art!
-
Try opening the files with mp3tag to ensure the art is tagged properly. Unfortunately, we can only support art that is properly tagged to the song. If the Zune software does art in it's own way, we can't possibly support that. -
Just did. It's there. And then I played the song, and no album art. :( -
Inappropriate?Hmm, this is getting a bit random... So I re-installed Songbird by downloading a fresh copy and deleting the .songbird2 folder again. The first run wizard ran, it scanned for media etc, all good.
I did a random spot check by playing about 100 tracks randomly but only about half of them displayed the album art.
My collection is meticulously tagged using Tag & Rename (a windows app) and everything has artwork embedded. I'm going to dig around a bit more to see if I can find some sort of pattern but there does seem to be something fishy going on.
Anyone else getting this or is it something to do with my setup?
I’m a bit like "woah, this is random"
-
no i use tag & rename as well and am also experiencing this problem. I have detailed my issue in this http://gsfn.us/t/kk3 problem -
Inappropriate?I have no problems with my library. Since there is a couple people experiencing this issue, I have asked the dev responsible for this code to look into the issue. He knows how it works better than I do and may be able to shed some light onto what is happening.
-
Inappropriate?Hey ashughes, I've had a bit more of a play around and can re-create this reliably with certain tracks. If it helps the developer I can send them an mp3 that displays album art and one that doesn't.
The fact that it seems to be the same files over and over again would suggest it is to do with the way I've tagged them. However, these same files displayed art correctly in the recent release candidates and in Amarok etc.
Thanks for your help so far :)

Could you please file a bug report at bugzilla.songbirdnest.com and attach the test files to that bug report? If you do not have an account, sign up for one; it is free. -
Have created bug 11878 with some example files attached. The bug can be found here: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show... -
Inappropriate?Slate8, yeah if you could get me more information on the files that do not work that would be great. We only look at the FrontCover and Other types for album art in the id3 tags (FrontCover = 3 and Other = 0) so if the software put the cover in a different position then we will not be able to pick it up.
-
Inappropriate?Hey Stevo, thanks for the response. Please see my bug report for example files. http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
I'm pretty sure I only ever tag album art into the FrontCover container.
Many thanks -
Inappropriate?Thanks for filing Slate8

Inappropriate?I'm having the same issues, too. None of my artwork is displayed.
I spend ages tagging mine using Tag&Rename (could be the source of the problem?) and they appear fine in other media players such as Winamp, iTunes etc.
I think it could be the way it is tagged, because a friend of mine sent me a track. He uses other software to tag his mp3s, and the artwork works fine for ALMOST every song he has sent me.
I reaallyy don't want to have to find another tagging software and go through all my library again =(
I’m annoyed!

Thanks for the feedback. Feel free to follow http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show... for progress on this issue. -
I probably should have mentioned that I'm running Vista SP1 (32bit), as well. Sorry about that.
Thanks for the link and fast reply! -
Inappropriate?I have same problem, however only AAC files that converted by iTune got those bugs, mp3 files or converted by other converters don't.
Strange, it seems like some tag-reading-or-writing issue, I'm sure all files are displayed correctly in foobar, WMP, etc..
By the way, Vista SP1 and SongBird 0.7.0 -
Inappropriate?Ok it looks like I found the problem with mime service not properly detecting an extension from a valid mime type (image/jpg) in this case. So I have added a work around for it which will need to be reviewed on bug 11878.
@Arnon AAC files we do not support reading images from meta data yet, only mp3 id3 tags. -
How do we apply the workaround? Do we redownload and install Songbird, or is there a patch of some sort? I can't see anything on the bug report. I'm a noob, I know -_- -
You don't apply the workaround. Once it is reviewed, it will be checked into the product. You will have to wait until we put out a 0.7.1 to reap the benefits of this work around. -
The patch will be reviewed and then hopefully make it into the next release of Songbird (0.7.1) So you will get an update of Songbird. -
Ah, thanks. I'll just go be an idiot somewhere else xD Hope it makes it into the next update =) -
Inappropriate?Same problem here. No artwork is shown for any file...
-
Inappropriate?I have the same issue
No art for my music, worked yesterday upgraded today and it was gone -
Inappropriate?Same problem--no album art but had it in 0.6. I am running Ubuntu 8.04. However, my album art is not embedded in my tags. That was not a problem for 0.6. For 0.7 does the album art have to be embedded in the tags for Songbird to pick it up?
-
On 0.6 you need the Album Art Manager for art period. On 0.7 you dont need Album Art Manager for art in the tag; you still need Album Art Manager to display art that is not listed in the tag.
Album Art Manager still needs to be updated for 0.7.0 however. Please wait until this has been updated and you should be ok. -
Thanks for explanation! -
Actually if you had Album Art Manager installed for 0.6 and it collected album art for your tracks then the new Album Art Pane and the meta data editor in 0.7 will pick those up. -
Inappropriate?Wow - great to see such a speedy turn around on this; I only reported it yesterday and it looks like Stevo almost has a fix ready! I've never known a product to be developed so rapidly.
Hoorah for the Songbird team.
I’m all smiley - check my icon out
-
Inappropriate?Same here. Thousands of albums with art in each file via tag&rename (can confirm in WMP, iTunes, T&R and AudioShell) and only like 3 albums show up with art.
-
Inappropriate?same here too
no album artwork is displayed.
all cover pics are saved in each folder of /artist/album/cover.jpg
which workes fine for the most musicplayers - songbird ignore them unfortunateley.
i can display the cover in songbirg, but i have to edit the song .
should i edit each of my thousands of songs?
there is an option missing in preference, that songbird should search for the cover art in the current folder!
thanks & greets from germany

Inappropriate?Hey Stevo, I have just tried the 2008-08-23 build and am happy to say the issue is resolved. All my artwork is displaying correctly following a random skip through 100 tracks.
Good work!
I’m over the moon
-
Awesome, thanks for the reply :). -
Inappropriate?same problem here, but i downloaded the lastest nightly build and it doesn't seems to be solved...
only a few of my covers have album art displayed...
cover art is displayed in WMP, banshee, exaile, rhythmbox...
I’m sad
-
Currently the only media files that Songbird can get the images from at this point are mp3 id3 tags. We don't read from ogg, flac, wma etc. -
Inappropriate?ok i was wondering why only some cover arts are displayed and some not...
aber upgrading to the nightly build version.
but i have all cover pics in each music folder:
/artist/album/albumcover.jpg
is it not possible to let songbird search for cover artwork in the same folder the current song is saved?
even some musicplayers search in the web for coverartwork an download them in the current folder. -
Currently Songbird does not search in the items location for images to be used as artwork. This feature is available in the Album Art Manager (which will be updated soon to be compatible with 0.7).
