Artist and Album info not updated on scan for media
When i use "scan for media" in my music folder on songbird 0.6, it does not update the details for all the songs in terms of adding artists and albums. It started doing this but obviously stopped as all the artists a-b where done but part way through c they cut off. All i am left with is the actual file name as the song.
However when i play each song, it updates this information manually. But with over 15000 files, it's not something i can do manually.

This should no longer be a problem in the 1.0 release! Let us know if you're still missing metadata on your wma files. If you are missing metadata on wma files that you imported with a previous release, you'll need to remove those and re-import them into your library. The metadata will be read and populated during media import.

Inappropriate?I've filed a bug for this issue. We'll look into it.

Inappropriate?I think this happens when someone with a large music collection does the initial import, believes it has stalled, and stops/cancels the import. Not all the metadata makes it in and subsequent scans don't change the situation. I had this problem and fixed it by deleting my .songbird2 and Songbird folders, re-installing (I used the 0.7pre20080618 nightly) and allowing the initial import to sit there, even if it appears to have stalled. When it completes, all metadata will be there.
I’m happy

Have you tried a subsequent scan of another directory after your initial scan? I'm curious to know if that also succeeds. I had success on my first scan, but failures on subsequent scans. -
You were right brianwc about the initial import. I deleted everything from my library, scanned for media, and allowed it a few minutes to breathe. All my music tag information has been read and added to the library. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I just spoke to QA and it seems that this is fixed in the latest 0.7pre (nightly build). If you'd like to try the new nightly to see if it works for you, please go the Nightly Builds page and download the appropriate nightly build for your platform.
I’m thankful

It does indeed solve the import problem using the latest nightly build. However when i imported a playlist (.m3u file), it stopped updating the metadata part way through just as it used to do with the library (which is fixed now) -
Inappropriate?Linux users!
Please try the solution on this related post: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t.... Let us know how it goes!

Inappropriate?I thought I had this same problem, but songbird is only identifying about 20% of my mp3s, all of which are in a single top-level directory. I tried the 06/24 nightly build, and it definitely finished the scan faster, but I"m still missing piles of mp3s.

Inappropriate?maxi, can you tell us more about what platform you're on, and more about the tracks that didn't make it into your library?
-
Inappropriate?I had this problem using the nightly build on 7/29/08. None of my files seem to have meta data until the song plays for 3-4 seconds. Also parts of meta data are not being read. I have embedded album art on most of my songs along with tons of additional info, Songbird does not seem to be able to read some of the alternate info :( I am on XP sp2.

Inappropriate?I have this problem using 0.7. The songs I've downloaded from eMusic and the songs I've downloaded via my record player have all of their information, but the songs I've ripped from CDs using Windows Media Player only show up as the name of the file.
-
Inappropriate?i also have this problem using 0.7 the info is not updated at all until the track is played
I’m sad
