Audio Books and Speeches
It would be a great help to separate my music files from my audio books, speeches, lectures, etc. That may mean adding the option of splitting the "Library" into two segments, one for music and one for the spoken word (similar to iTunes splitting movies, tv shows, and music)
I don't know of any program that is useful with those files and so could be a key feature. There are a few portable players that seem to handle the difference well and so i would still want both to be accessed by the same application without changing profiles.

Inappropriate?Little Shru,
I'm new 'round these parts but I've already seen a few other feature requests around audio books. Check out bug # 12657. Feel free to add additional feature requests there by:
1. Going to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug # 12657
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box
3. Scroll down and hit commit.
If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team -
Inappropriate?Thanks for the tip!
This bug (?) specifically refers to bookmarks for audio files which would be a great start, but doesn't look like its much of a priority yet.
Wish I knew something about coding so I could contribute myself...
Still patiently hoping... -
This may not be the minor feature it seems to be. Just look at the success of audible. There are tens of millions of audiobook readers. This would be a feature any audiobook listeners would consider a must-have. I've got 400 gigs of MP3 audiobooks and I haven't found the perfect PC interface. I've just bought a netbook. I'm trying Songbird as the perfect "small footprint" player. -
Inappropriate?I a looking for the same capability that I tunes has of being able to make a file "bookmarkable" IT is vital to audio book listeners.

Inappropriate?yes! wonderful idea! I have tons of spoken word files that are always mixing up with my music files. I also like to assign my audiobooks genres like "science" and "mystery" which means if I'm browsing for music there are a bunch of non-music genres I have to sift through.
Like a real library, it would also be great to introduce Super-Genres and Sub-Genres, because with so many flavors out there, the horizontal organizational scheme just doesn't cut it anymore. With audiobooks you could have: fiction and non-fiction, and so on in a great tree of organization! Of course I'm talking about using this for music as well. -
I already do it, just like you said: I tag my audio files with genre "audiobook - fiction", "audiobook - non fiction" etc... Because I don't want to have these spoken words coming up, when I listen to music, I just created a smart playlist "Only Music" and set as rules to not include genre containing "Audiobook".
imho, these smart playlists are far more advanced than iTunes separation of Audiobooks and Music. There is so much more possible, with this.
So, I don't think such a division between music & audiobooks is needed, because I think Smart playlists are much more powerful and as easy to use. :-) -
Inappropriate? The problem is that it won't remember your position. Itunes always wins for me because of the bookmarking capability that works between the ipod and itunes. Basically I can listen to an audio book from my ipod via itunes. Then get in my car and pick up right where I stopped in itunes. It does the same thing in podcasts. To me this is a MUST have feature. To this day, no other app can do this other than itunes. It's why I keep using it even though I hate itunes.

Inappropriate?i think it'd be great if songbird would let us separate out audiobooks and radio shows etc. so they don't pop up when we have it set to shuffle our whole library, and also remember the position of files like that
