Backup the entire profile and move it to another directory?
I've been looking for ages for a programme to replace old Itunes... so imagine how happy I was when I found Songbird could import the Itunes-Library *and* synchronize with my Ipod.
Unfortunately, I found that I can't change the directory of my Songbird-profile from c:\documents...\<user>\application data\songbird2\... to another partition like I've done already with my Firefox and Thunderbird profiles. I change the "profiles.ini" to the correct new location... but once I open Songbird again, it just creates another profile in the c:\documents...\<user>\application data\songbird2-folder with the same name as the old one, clearly not accessing the directory and profile-data I've indicated in profiles.ini (but not changing profile.ini at all!).
I'd really love to use this programme but this is a serious hindrance because I just like to feel save with my user data on another partition than the system (BTW, WinXP pro SP 3)... I'd appreciate any help.</user></user>

Inappropriate?Run songbird with the "-p" profile manager flag. That should bring up a GUI to help you make a new profile. (I think you would open the Run box and then type "songbird -p" if I remember correctly)

Inappropriate?Thanks for your help.
But how does that help me when I want to restore the profile (i.e. after a system crash). I still can't get songbird to access the profile in another directory. The method with the profile manager just lets me create a new profile in another directory - but not access an existing one...
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? This is what I've done (and works), maybe will help:
I've got a laptop which I use at home and at work, so I have two user accounts, but both share the same songbird profile. This is what I did:
a) I installed sonbird and added all my songs with the account A1.
That created a profile in C:\Documents and Settings\A1\Application Data\Songbird2
b) I logged in with the account A2 and runned Songbird. This created a profile for this account.
c) I entered in C:\Documents and Settings\A2\Application Data\Songbird2 and edited profiles.ini adding a new profile:
[Profile1]
Name=myAccount Profile name
IsRelative=0 1 or 0, indicates if the path is relative or not, choose 0
Path=C:\Documents and Settings\A1\Application Data\Songbird2\Profiles\asdf242.default here I wrote the path of my profile
Default=1 Indicates if is loaded by default
d) I runned Songbird using the Start menu shortcut (Profile manager) and checked that the profile was listed and selected by default.
I hope this can help.
PD: The path of the songs library can't be changed, I think is in a db file in the profile folders. (In a binary file)
