Batch import hundreds of .m3u playlists? NOT one at a time!!
I have a LOT of .m3u playlists; how do I import them all at once? Importing *a* playlist works fine, but I don't want to import hundreds of them one at a time!

Inappropriate?Unfortunately, there is no way to batch import playlists. I suppose you could write an addon to do this for you...
-
Inappropriate?Oh well. Stuck with Amarok.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Thanks for checking out Songbird.
-
Inappropriate? This is an important feature. I sat in disbelief when I saw that there was no way to add multiple playlists. It will be tough to convert people from other players when it takes them hours to move their playlists over.
-
Inappropriate? No joke, man. I would STILL like to use Songbird, and there's no way SB should go to 1.0 without a way to batch import playlists. You guys are slowly losing me to Amarok's PnP ease, even if I hate the interface.
I’m serious.

Inappropriate?after spending a bunch of time figuring out that 0.7 had an issue with
my firewire interface now i find it's going to take FOREVER to import
all of my playlists?!?!?!
totally agree with the idea that 1.0 should not be released without
batch playlist import.

Inappropriate? There is STILL no batch import feature. I now can't use Amarok because Amarok 2 won't sync with my ipod. I WAS going to try Songbird again, but now am not going to bother.

I've just made a patch to fix that, I just need it to be applied. Please hold on :) -
Inappropriate?Actually it woul be awesome if some of you could post a bug about this at http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com, then I'll attach my patch to it.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Just forget it I've made one :)
You can follow its process here: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Mh, just importing hundreds of playlists won't help much, I think. There also needs to be a way to organize them. Hundreds of items in the left service-pane aren't very useful, imho.
But Saebekassebils patch, if accepted, is a good step in the right direction. I just fear, it will need a lot more time, until importing big amounts of playlists become useful... -
How should they be organized? Folders? -
Exactly. Folders & Subfolders. And everything movable via drag & drop, if possible with multiselection. The whole Servicepane should have that ability, imho. But the Playlist-Folder would be a start.
A big Plus, but not necessary, would be a way to search for playlists via searchbar or something. -
Never been a big playlist user...
But it sounds like something I maybe could help with? Where are the servicepane data saved right now? -
I have no idea, maybe you ask in the developers group? I tried to manipulate the Servicepane once and was very frustrated, because I couldn't enumerate through all the nodes, it just stopped sometimes. Also some Nodes seemed to be saved somewhere, but others seemed to be generate on runtime... It would be very cool, if you could take a look into it. -
We'll just have to wait until they answer on IRC.. :P -
So, dbradley @ #songbird is suggestion that one could give it an extra property and then group them using that?
So it wouldn't be possible to group in more leves than one, but isn't one level enough? -
Though I can't help that much, not being well-versed in sqllite, I'm grateful you guys are #ing this out ;-) Thanks! If I might make a suggestion: I don't know how other people use their playlists, but I have several categories that I would LOVE to be able to organize by folder. I have hundreds of individual operas...each with their own playlist. I have playlists that are everything by individual artists, like the Louis Armstrong or the Clapton playlist. I have mix playlists for exercise or chilling. I have category playlists, like 70s guitar rock and 80s pop, etc. If *I* was the one designing this, I would make it so that I could create named folders in that left or any other panel that I could store categories (Artists, Operas, Soundtracks, Mixes, Symphonies, etc) of playlists in...with drag and drop if at all possible. Is this feasible? As long as you guys are fiddling with the importer and the interface, I thought I might toss in a perspective of how an end-user might like it to operate. Again...thanks, and if anyone needs any Java or HTML, let me know ;-) -
@Tarah: Yea but you only want to organize in _ONE_ level right? You don't have to have folders inside folders right? -
@Saebekassebil: Yep. The folders inside folders is in the MUSIC directory lolz...
Even if you guys can't do the folder thing yet, I would rather have my hundreds of playlists available in that left panel than not. They're all alphabetized anyway...it's possible I'm a little compulsive ;-) -
Tarah, I'll try to find a way to organize them. But please make a bug / feature suggestion at bugzilla.songbirdnest.com and link it up here ;) -
Inappropriate? This has now been fixed, and will (probably) appear in one of the next nighlys.. :)

WOW! That was fast. Thanks, Saebekassebil! :-) -
Well not the organizing yet, sorry. Only the batch import :) -
Seriously fast and seriously excellent. Watching this bug was like watching a tennis match this am! Thanks so much. -
No auto update, but you find the nightlys here: http://developer.songbirdnest.com/bui...
