Broader file formats support

The very reason why I\'m not dropping winamp is that my whole music library is in APE (Monkey\'s Audio) format. Add this and I\'ll definitely make the switch.

I tried one way, but couldn't get it working. Way which should theoretically work is:

    1) Ensure the Windows media playback extension is installed
    2) Get an APE Directshow filter (this allows even windows media player to play ape files). Basically, follow any tutorial for getting APE running on Windows media player (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archi... has a link to a directshow filter)
    3) Test your APE files in Windows media player. If they play, they will also play in Songbird.

However, for some reason it didn't. The whole Monkey audio format sounds a bit messy. I strongly suggest using a bulk conversion program (such as DBpowerAMP, or even Winamp), to convert your APE files to FLAC files. APE is now kinda obsolete, as FLAC is entirely open, is much better supported, and is also lossless. Never seen any portable media players with APE support, but sansa for instance offers support for FLAC.

Also, Monkey audio's distribution terms are a bit dodgy.

Whilst I know its not the response you want, you should probably consider changing to FLAC. Yes I know it takes a while to do (I converted my entire collection from Apple lossless to FLAC almost manually). But in the long run, its the best option. Monkey's distribution terms seem to contradict themselves.
