What about burning a CD from certain melodies?
Or can I export back to iTunes?

Inappropriate? We currently do have support for burning CDs. Fear not, this feature is frequently requested and is definitely planned for a future release.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, but I don ́t quite understand you. First you say that you "do have support for burning CDs. Then you say that it "is definitely planned for a future release". Which?
I’m puzzled
-
Inappropriate?Sorry TYPO! We do NOT currently support CDs (that means Songbird doesn't have this feature right now). But CD ripping and burning is on the list for a future release (that means we have a list of features that we are planning, but have not yet implemented). Cheers!
-
Inappropriate?I would love to see CD Burning added ASAP - that should be on the short-list, if it is not already! At the very least, some exportable list so a program like Nero (or whatever *nix/win/mac uses) can find the specific songs, in the specific order... that would be a great work-around until Burning is added.
I’m anxious for this to be added!

Inappropriate?Hi all I'm am new to ubuntu and semi-new to Songbird {I gave it a half hearted try on vista} but thought it could be great!...
I would really like to see songbird be able to Rip/ Burn cd's/dvd's on linux I think it has the potential to replace some of the apps on ubuntu when it gets sorted...
but the main things I think are badly needed are to rip/burn cd/dvds.
thanks for your time and good luck!!

I am running 0.7rc3 on Vista 64-bit, and it's about as quick as iTunes was... I am so hopeful for this; I also run linux boxes from time-to-time, so having a cross-platform player/library manager is really nice. -
Inappropriate?I'd really like to have CD burning, then I can completely rid my system of that iTunes bloatware!!
-
Inappropriate?omfg. you can't be serious. i really needed to burn these tracks onto a CD. iTunes totally messed up everything...
god. what a !@#$.
I’m !@#$ed off.
-
Inappropriate?if you go tools/options/main, you'll see "save files to", and that's it: you can burn them with any software, or import them to iTunes and burn them
-
Inappropriate?Yes, I really need to burn CD's and DVD's. Windows Media player does not support watching or playing downloaded or ripped music & movies. Please put this onto the URGENT list.
Thanks

Inappropriate?I downloaded this program since I was lead to believe that it could be used for burning CD's. If not, then I have no need for this software. Contact me when you really become useful.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?semi-Ditto to C. I was delighted by Songbird at first. well aware via lifehacker of the issues but why put anything out if I can't burn with it. That's pure kooky.
Colour me really bummed having just spent an hour putting together a mixtape for a friend. wtf? Shortlist burning folks. Good Gawd.
I’m freakin' cranky!
-
Inappropriate? So far, I love Songbird. Albeit, I only got it yesterday. It's extremely helpful and well designed, for such a young program. I'd love to be able to rip and burn CDs but I'm more than happy to stick around until that feature's available. I'm a little disappointed with all the negative comments though... chill out, homies. They're working on it. Patience is a virtue.
I’m patient
-
Inappropriate?Moving to ideas, since CD support is a "feature".

Inappropriate?I'm with deliafcipe
I mean CD Ripping/burning isn't even being worked on by the looks of things as it is not even scheduled yet??
and it seems to keeps getting put lower down the order although I may be wrong on that fact
CD ripping is supposed to be in Release: April '09
but I guess we will all have to wait and see
-
Inappropriate?Sure it's kind of a hassle to go to another program to burn CD's, but it's remarkably prescient of them to realize that many people have some sort of mass media storage device (be it an ipod or mtp of some sort), however for this to truly replace something like itunes/windows media/etc etc for me it must rip and burn. I know this point has already been made here, I guess I want to repeat for emphasis. This should be a 1.1-1.3 sort of thing, and I think it really is holding people back from getting songbird. Fin
I’m mildly dismayed, yet patient

Inappropriate?I concur. Tho I was whiney and poopy on my previous post I do HEART Songbird. My gawd, when I added the add-on called The Exorcist and it was able to delete all the duplicate/ghost tracks I somehow had amassed I nearly wept. Just add a cd burner program and a nice way to print track listings then if I could i'd remove itunes and pitch it out into the front yard or set it on fire and float it down the river.
I’m going to Keep Calm and Carry On.

Inappropriate?SongBird has tons of extentions but no support for Burning CDs ? Ridiculous!
Being able to burn CDs is one of the most basic features a Media Player should have. I was happy with SongBird until I needed to Burn a MP3 CD. Now I am using Banshee as my Media Player. Developers really need to add this feature if they want more users for this incomplete player.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? It's quite surprising that burning a CD isn't a basic function here... Playlists must transcend the dark heart of the personal machine!
I’m saddened by the total WTF factor
-
Inappropriate? One of the things i'm really missing about itunes is how easy it was to burn a playlist to a cd. I don't want to stuff around finding individual songs in my music folder and adding them to a list on a separate program. When burning a CD becomes a function (or extension) It would be great if there was a 'burn to disc' button that would allow you to burn which ever playlist you are listening to onto a disc.
-
Inappropriate?I think burning should be added immediately, I'm really surprised that it wasn't implemented in the beta release or even earlier... I like Mozilla but take your head out of your ass and add CD support to this program.
I’m Surprised, but there is always corporate fuck ups

Take easy boy !
We are in the 1.0
1.1 is comging now at 02/2009
1.2 is coming in the next month with burning too -
There is a wrong way and a right way of doing things. Yes it would be easy to bung on Burning support with an open source library, but if you give people a bad impression, it sticks with them.. So its better to do things right the first time, and develop a clean way of doing it, that is extendible. Look at windows and OSX for examples. People are still arguing that Windows is unstable and virus prone, whilst it hasn't been for ages now. And uninformed people are still arguing that Apple makes the best equipment for graphics artists (whilst they themselves are saying the apple touch has been lost). Impressions count. Its better to do it properly the first time.
And yes, its scheduled in April anyway, but if you need it urgently now, there is no reason why you can't use one of the numerous CD burning applications available (there are dozens out there). As songbird is a player, most people would probably prefer functionality such as watched folders first, which CANNOT be replaced with 3rd party applications. Also, I don't think Songbird is owned by the Mozilla corporation.. They simply use the Mozilla basecode.
Finally, I'd prefer the Songbird team implements stuff properly the first time. Otherwise they would end up having to rewrite half their codebase every 2 or 3 years, because cruddy code can't be maintained for long (which is what happens to rushed projects). But that's just me.. -
Inappropriate?I'm absolutly astonished at the amount of bitching and disrespect shown to the developers of Songbird. They do this for free and this is the thanks you lot give them. I suggest, to anyone moaning about not being able to burn or rip cds; learn how to program your selves and contribute to the developement or write your own addons to burn cds. You might realize how much effort and time it takes to produce bug free and good software. I suggest that if you have nothing constructive to add then you should keep your whining to your selves. And it wouldn't go a miss for a few apologies and praise to be given to the developers of songbird and all the contributions from people who write the great addons for this application. As you might have guessed, i'm a developer my self and these types of comments would put me off writing any further improvements to a bunch of unappreciative people. Rant over :-)
1 person thinks
this is one of the best points
-
Inappropriate? No ranting at all, Dave. You're totally right! I'm not a programmer myself, but I do know what it's like to work hard on something that's simply for free and everybody can benefit of. I wish people would be a bit more concern of what they are consuming for free all the time, not being aware of the generosity they leech from.
Anyway... thanks for the coming updates! The integration of burning CDs surely is a great new addition.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?Hi MaroonLoto, thanks for your support. I'm glad someone agrees with me :-) i don't think most people are aware of the time and effort that is put into opensource software. They expect it to be perfect straight away. Even closedsource software is rarely perfect and those guys get paid for their efforts. I wander how many people here have donated or contributed towards Songbird. I've seen the same post directed at the developers of the KDE and the aMSN projects and it does annoy me some times. Anyway, well done to the developers of Songbird. It's a lot better than the last time i used it when it was back at version 0.25. Cheers dave.
-
Inappropriate?quit your bitching,
the way i see songbird now is like a nicely cooked, beautifully dressed 1/2 oz cut of steak. yea, its short term appeal is high, but it lacks the sustenance that i need.
i'v long since deleted songbird and the only reason i'm replying to this thread is because it still gets forwarded to my inbox.
i'll admit, i'm not a programmer, not in the slightest. but dave, maybe instead of complaining about the criticism (that is the purpose of these threads) YOU should help the songbird team to add a CD interface. that would seem more constructive than scolding people for being honest.
I’m making fun of you

Inappropriate?Much needed feature for those with a CD player without USB capabilities like me. I burn CDs on a weekly basis using itunes
