Can songbird completely replace itunes?
I have a windows XP PC and can no longer get iTunes to work on it (they have been of no assistance); I found Songbird and really like it. What I would like to do is completely circumvent the iTunes issue by using Songbird to handle it all. I was wondering if Songbird creates a library file (or uses my itunes one) and if I can just sync my iPod to Songbird directly, and have all of my music in 1 lovely little folder. Oh, I have about 21,000 tracks on my ipod and a couple dozen videos.

Inappropriate? The short answer is yes. Go to www.getsongbird.com to try out our last release or developer.songbirdnest.com to try out an RC for our upcoming release.
The long answer:
1. Songbird can import your iTunes library
2. Songbird supports ipod syncing
3. Videos should work, but is sort of a gray area right now.\
Let us know how you make out.

Inappropriate? So, if I buy music through songbird, will it drop the tunes into the "Songbird" library, and I've been having trouble getting the app to finish reading my library, it imports the songs, but is stuck at 99% trying to do the playlists and ratings, I guess the "extended"-metadata.
-
Inappropriate?1. Songbird does not have a music store.
2. Depending on library size, it could take quite a while to import. A 10,000 song library could take approximately 5-7 minutes to import. -
Inappropriate? My library has been sitting at 99% scanned for about 30 hours. I am using .7, but I'd originally tried the .6 version that has been officially blessed. I would try to chop the xml into 2 or 3 files, but I don't think that would work. Any thoughts? I'm maybe willing to just delete and run the library staight from SB and delete the current file for SB to maintain, but I'd prefer not.
Also, when I rip a CD and import the music from that rip, does it save those files into my SB library?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions. -
Inappropriate?1. Importing iTunes should work fine, unless there is a problem with your profile or xml file. I recommend deleting all copies of Songbird and all profile data; then download and install the latest 0.7rc build from developer.songbirdnest.com
2. Songbird does not have CD Ripping support yet. Assuming you used another app to rip to the same folder as the rest of your music; you would have to do File > Import Media on your music folder again. Songbird should only import the new files; adding them to your library.
Of course, the only sure fire way is to try it out for yourself. -
Inappropriate?Songbird _really_ needs support for grouping by compilations. It shouldn't be a very big deal to implement so I can't get why they are dragging it for so long...
I’m undecided
