Can Songbird handle multi-channel audio?
Can Songbird handle multi-channel audio or is it just stereo? If just stereo, what parts would need to be hacked to add multi-channel support?

Inappropriate?I can't say for sure how it will work on your system, but on my mac I can play multichannel flacs just fine out of the box. It may depend on how Songbird interacts with your operating systems sound system. (core audio vs wdm vs alsa, or whatever you have) but Songbird itself does support surround. (also try looking up GStreamer, it's the backend that powers Songbird's audio playback) I haven't however, been able to find any 'matrixing' or special surround effects for either expanding 2-channel, or downmixing surround. It just outputs the file it gets. I'm working on finding a way (I need to downmix 5.1 to Quad)

In principle, downmixing 5.1 to quad is straightforward. Mix the centre-front input equally into the left-front and right-front quad channels (this is called a phantom centre). If you have no subwoofer then mix the .1 LFE input equally into all four quad channels. However, I don't know of a songbird plugin that does this.
