Can Songbird Play M4A Files?
Does Songbird support playback of unencrypted (such as iTunes plus) m4a files? I'd like to get off iTunes altogether. My music library is comprised almost entirely of mp3 and flac files (which I obviously cannot play in iTunes) but I do have a few M4A albums purchased via the iTunes store. They are iTunes Plus m4a files (not encrypted). Are they playable via Songbird?

If you are on Windows or Mac and install the Quicktime add-on:

you should get both m4a and m4p playback.

Inappropriate?I've just moved my library from iTunes, and I've yet to have any problems with m4a files, with the exception of editing metadata on those files not working quite right (which is probably not a major concern since the metadata is probably mostly correct for iTunes-bought music).

Inappropriate?I can't get my .m4a files to play, either. I'm using Songbird 7 Windows Vista SP1, so it's not my operating system or any issue with out-of-date software. Please help, someone! We need an extension for M4A Playback. Thank you to anyone who can and will help with this!

Inappropriate? If you are on Ubuntu (not sure what other distros it works ok on) just follow the instructions on this ubuntu page. It will install all of the missing codecs for m4a so that you can play your m4a's again.

Inappropriate? You need to install Quicktime 7.5 or higher as well as the plugin. If you've installed the plugin before quicktime, just view your addons and enable the quicktime plugin.

Inappropriate?I have 2 albums that just don't play. They are .m4a
There is no error message popping up at all. I don't know why it isn't working. I am unable to install any itunes over 7.02 due to some software issue on my computer, and I have these two albums from backing up my mac, which is now dead. I want to listen to these songs. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am using windows xp with songbird 1.2
