Cannot open 6.1 update or reinstall?
When I installed the 6.1 update, Songbird would no longer open. When I reinstalled Songbird completely, it also cannot open.

Inappropriate?Ok. First things first. Lets get the details.
1.) What OS are you running?
2.) Approximately how old is your profile?
3.) Do you have many add-ons installed?
Tyler out!
I’m sure well get to the bottom of this
-
Inappropriate?Mac 10.4.11 OS
Profile is new.
No add-ons. -
Inappropriate? How did you update to 0.6.1 and from what version?
What did you do to create new profile?
When you reinstalled Songbird completely, did you delete your profile?
You can run this in a terminal:
rm -Rf ~/Library/Caches/Songbird2
rm -Rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Songbird2
rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/org.songbirdnest.songbird.plist -
Inappropriate?I updated from the web site from 5.1.
I did nothing to create a new profile.
When new reinstall, I did not create a new profile. -
Inappropriate?Same issue on Fedora 7 (all updates downloaded) // WindowMaker 0.9.2 as window manager
- update from 0.5 -> 0.5.1 -> 0.6.1 ==> crash
- fresh install + profile deletion (~/songbird directories) ==> crash
when launched in a terminal message says :"symbol lookup error [path to directory]/libxul.so :
undefined symbol g_once_init_enter_impl" -
Inappropriate?Try to determine, if you have read/write access to both folders. The program and the newly created profile Folder.
Else I don't see, what could be wrong.
Try to do it once more. Delete everything you got (the 2 upper mentioned folders), download Songbird again and see, if it works. -
Inappropriate?No Joy !
I have read and write access to the installation directory
deleted all profile and leftover from previous installs
a fresh install crashes with the same error message as previously described... -
Inappropriate? Thanks for your reply. I am sorry that I updated. 5.0 worked just fine.
I’m frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?Really odd. Please be sure to go File a Bug and put it as full of info as you can!!
The only thing I can think of, that you could try is to reinstall some things over your package manager. Try xulrunner for example. Maybe somewhere just some .so is missing or something like that. -
Inappropriate?@scancerre
Try to delete your existing profile by running this in a terminal:
rm -Rf ~/Library/Caches/Songbird2
rm -Rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Songbird2
rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/org.songbirdnest.songbird.plist
then run 0.6.1 again

this solves the problem

Well Boris,
I did run what you suggested in a terminal. I don't know why it worked, but I was able to do a fresh install of 6.1 and at this time, it opens very smoothly with no problem.
Thanks, CSancerre -
Inappropriate?@b04rdr1d3r
I just tried to update 0.5->0.5.1->0.6.1 on Fedora 8 32 bit.
Update works fine as well as fresh install of 0.6.1.
Have you seen Songbird when tried to launch or crash window only?
Does the same error come up in a terminal every time? -
Inappropriate?my problem is slightly different i tried a nightly of songbird 0.7 i didn't like it so i went back to 0.6.1 and song bird won't open anymore
I’m annoyed
