cannot sync to Nokia N97

If your nokia phone supports the MSC mode (should be the "mass storage" mode), and as you are already using SB 1.4.0a, maybe you'll dare to grab the MSC addon here :

ahh silly me. Using the MSB (build 1206 on songbird build 1206 - and removing the MTP addon) made the N97 show up nicely - and even report sync :-)
Now the bonus/surprise, was that there were only 18ish sings on the phone, and almost 900 on the PC library - so i just synced again, and then there were no songs left on the phone ??? I think I may have 'confused' the library on the phone. Is there a documented way to reset the phone library, to force a 'resync all' - btw a 'resync all' button in the MSC addon would be nice for beginners like me ;-)

There are 2 ways to sync your USB device:
- Manual synch: you just have to drag and drop songs manually from the mail library to the device's library
You can also delete songs directly from the device's library.

- Sync by Playlist or entire library (either entire library or some chosen playlist).
In this case, you cannot add or delete songs manually from the device directly, but you select the library or some playlist, you press Sync and SB will copy all supported files to the device, and erase the ones there that are not in the library (or playlist).
But, beware, for the moment, SB will do that only for media type supported by your device. And the default is MP3 only (there is a -still undocumented- way to tell Songbird that your device actually supports MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC or whatever, don't worry... once the documentation is there :))

So, if your library was made of WMA for instance, it could explain what you have observed.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I was away for business. Thanx Laura for your reply. I did read the posts above. SB actually recognizes my phone but when i try to sync it does nothing. About MSC addon, I don't use SB 1.4 so that's not an option for me. I'd really appreciate if SB developers can solve this issue, now I'm using WMP11 to sync my library, what i do is export my SB libraries to WMP with an addon and then sync them with phone using WMP, but sometimes the metadata info is wrong, so it bothers me

I'm using SB 1.3 every day, with the MSC addon installed (available here: http://developer.songbirdnest.com/bui... , the corresponding MSC addon being here: http://developer.songbirdnest.com/bui...)

Although officially not released, this Songbird version is very stable if you want to use the MSC addon (the "only" issue being the broken MTP).

If I were you, I would give it a try.

Hi. I also had the synching problem, but the the last post from klint solved it. It is now possible for me to synch my N97 with a playlist (MSC-Addon). But unfortunately I discovered that Songbird also deletes my Podcasts on the phone, which are stored in a completely different folder than my music files. How can I stop Songbird from removing my Podcasts from the folder "root"/podcasts/audio. I only want it to sync with the folder music on the root directory of my phone.

Quick update - no good news, but maybe something for troubleshootoing.
Now the Nokia is on Firmware 12.something, I moved the music using doubletwist in the hope, it would transcode the m4p's to mp3 but all the files are 1 byte?? Fast forward. . .
Anyway I started songbird, and it discovered all the new music on the new (win7) pc, and when I plugged in the n97 in mass storage mode, songbird nicely asked, if i wanted to synchoinize, and I said yes, asked authorization to delete on the phone, and then very soon after it finished, and had effectively done nothing :-(
Not having a lot of luck here.
eh should mention that I also took songbird and add-ons to build 1343.
