can't connect ipod touch with songbird
I just installed songbird on my ubuntu system. I did this mainly because i can't connect my ipod 32 GB touch to any other ubuntuprograms. But i can't see any options for connecting in songbird and it wont appear by it self. It would be great with a little bit of help - my ubuntu skills are limited so an explanation for dummies would be great :)

Really? Didn't know that. -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem.. I can charge the battery of my iPod Touch 16 gb (2nd? generation, got in 12/08) in Ubuntu, however, cannot transfer files to it.. Funnily enough, I also own another PC, which has Windows Vista 64 installed in it and which also is of no use to me here. (iPod Touch is not compatible with 64 bit systems I guess.)
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?G'day,
Just some further info, the problem with supporting the iPod Touches and iPhones is:
1) Apple uses a LOT of protection. So it takes a lot of work. In the time it takes to support them, POTI could add plenty of new features or support for other devices
2) Apple is competitive, and its likely that if Songbird became a threat in the future, they would update the firmware to block other players. You will note that the pre used hacks to appear like an ipod and work with iTunes.
3) With firmware changes, changes to the communication protocols will probably be made. So POTI would be playing cat and mouse
4) Most people wouldn't use Songbird with their touch/iphone anyway, because synchronisation of programs requires ITMS access.
5) POTI may tread on the DMCA by doing so..
However, there is VERY good news:
In Songbird 1.3 the Portable media player plugins finally are open sourced, so it is much easier for people to make their own extension to allow acecss to the iPod touches / iPhone. Whether anyone will is another matter (and POTI probably couldn't officially support it), but it does make it easier.
I can see why people want it to happen, but I don't like the idea of sacrificing other functionality for a single device POTI could never fully support anyway.
(PS. I'm not hired by POTI, and just a user), and this is just an opinion.
