Inappropriate?That's strange...
I've never seen dialog asking if you want to play mp3 or mpg files.
Are you sure about that?
What platform(operating system) you're running on?
What fyle types are the problematic files?
You're asking -"How can i get this back to the way it was?"
Does that mean the same files where fine before you switched to 0.6.1? -
no this is the first version i have tried ,its mp3 files, the song is coming on the top but its not playing,no i haven't tried to play mp3 songs before.. -

Inappropriate?Songbird does NOT ask, if it should play mp3 or not. It just will. That has to be your operating system.
Which one do you use? Doesn't sound like Windows, because that one doesn't ask either. Linux?
If yes, which Distribution (Ubuntu, Debian, Suse, etc.)?
I'm guessing Ubuntu without installed mp3 support, asking, if it sould install it now, as soon as you clicked.
I’m confident, that we'll get to it!

i use Windows vista.. : ( -
Inappropriate? That's not good. Windows not playing a common file is never a good sign. If you want to credit MS for something, it is that it can handle most common file types out of the box.
Do those files play in other media players (Windows Media Player, VLC, or something else)? -
Yes its plays in iTunes, Winamp thats the program i use to music. -
Inappropriate?Hmm.. I've got similar problem. First I thought that files I wanted to play are in some other format but next day I discovered that it was MP3! Of course foobar or WMP don't has that problem.
I'm using Songbird/0.7.0 (20080819112708) XPCOMViewer/0.9a (2008072921) Build 716
My OS is Windows XP Pro.
