Change the default theme. It looks like rubbish.

Yeah, I know its easy to change the theme, but I know lots of people that were put off songbird because it basically ripped off itunes for no apparent reason. What were the reasons for having that theme anyway?

For me, the default theme is still one of my top 3 feathers. I like it. (And I don't care if it looks itunish or not. Why are people scared off by that?! I don't get it. Never judge a book by its cover, especially if you can change the cover that easy...)

I like the theme and it differs quite a bit from iTunes. Also iTunes does look nice it's just a frustrating media player. So why not keep a nice look, improve on it and not to mention give the ability for users to change..

Lets lay aside for just now, the idea that itunes looks good or looks bad. We are not itunes. Songbird is not itunes. Linux distros don't try and looks like Windows just because it "looks familiar". Firefox doesn't try and look like IE just because it "looks familiar".

People who like itunes will not move to songbird. They would have no reason to. We should not be looking like itunes, whether or not you think it looks good. I think it is a pointless thing to look like.

I'm not saying the feather shouldn't exist, just that it shouldn't be the default feather because it puts people off songbird. Like they think we can't make an origional music player, with an origional look. We have to rip of the program we are trying to be better than.

As for being scared off by its cover - that is what people do. And these people are not the most geeky at all, but you cannot ignore people that are stupid. People don't want it to look like itunes.

It's all about the system theme for me (http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...), this would get my vote for being default (if it gets a bit of TLC). What could be more familiar than having Songbird look like your OS's native apps?

I have to agree. I tried this theme, but it didn't play well with gtk. But yeah, I agree so much that this needs to be the default. Like the default firefox and thunderbird themes. And people can make it look like they want, if they want. I always wondered why it isn't like this.

How about putting some screenshots of Songbird using different feathers on the very front page? (getsongbird.com) It would show people that yes, the default feather looks somewhat like iTunes, but you can take Songbird's appearance in a completely different direction.

I've seen screen-shots of the dark gonzo theme and I like it more than any other theme I've seen, but where can i get it from please? I don't want the user created dark themes because they're unrefined but I'd love to get hold of the official black Gonzo pre 0.7 if anyone has it?

Even if you did get a hold of it, it wouldn't work out of the box, as the UI has changed since 0.7. It would require some modding. Maybe a skinner will create a feather with the same theme. I would suggest YABS in the meantime.

I'd vote for YABS to put on the Index page on getsongbird.com. And even as default feather. Woot.
