Compatible with the latest iPhone and iPod touch?
Songbird looks cool and they certainly seem to be producing a good product. I would like to know if it is compatible with the latest iPhone and iPod touch?

Inappropriate?Nope. Apple has it locked up; itunes only.
-
Inappropriate?Not correct.....
If thats is likes the case, hows comes mediamonkey have cracked that nut? I hate iTunes, so now use mediamonkey for my syncin, but would almost be down with the prog if Songbird figured out this doozie.
I’m deadly

I'd question the legality of Mediamonkey "cracking the nut," at least as far as I know. -
I also use Media Monkey for my iPod- they (MM) don't make a secret of it. -
Inappropriate? What is the difference legally between syncing the iPod and the iPhone? I would guess none. The iPhone is quickly becoming the smart phone of choice. If songbird has the capability of syncing the the iPod, I don't know why they are reluctant to try and sync the iPhone.

No, you misunderstand; niether the iPhone OR the iPod touch work with songbird. -
I am sorry, you are right, I do not understand, but it seems to me that there is no reason it should not. Are you ruling out the possibility of either ever working? I have just recently come across the latest version of ml_ipod on winamp which has given me the ability to sync music and movies both to and from my 3G iPhone without using iTunes. I am also able to use mediamonkey to sync. I do not know what is involved in a port of ml_ipod to songbird, but it is opensource, is it not? The only thing I use iTunes for now is to sync my contacts, and I think I might try and start to use Google Mobile Sync to do that soon. -
Inappropriate?Dustin, is the question a matter of the legality of Songbird developers creating the addon? If thats the case why doesn't someone unaffiliated write the addon using third party libs already out there and post it somewhere accessible to all and let the internet do the rest...
I wonder how hard it would be
I’m amused

Inappropriate?Yeah, I have an iPod touch which does not work with Songbird... but my iPod nano (1st gen) works perfectly with Songbird (with the iPod add-on).
Is this just a temporary thing? -
Inappropriate? Here's how I've heard it explained:
Unfortunately due to Apple being an incredibly anti-competitive company, its not legal for POTI to support some of the new ones (like the iPod touch), because doing so would require breaking encryption (and therefore breaking DMCA laws).

Inappropriate?Thank you Dustin for your reply.
They should at least allow it for Linux-based programs. I mean, they refuse to develop iTunes for Linux, and don't allow 3rd party developers to come up with decent (even better) alternatives.
I hope Songbird will prevail. -
Inappropriate?So, that's it then?
(..... downloading Itunes..... )
Well, hope something can be done in the future....
(Itunes suxs)
I’m frustrated

No, you missed the redirect link up at the top. (look for the stop sign) -
Well, te add-on has been open-sourced; you never know what might pop up. -
Inappropriate? If it's legality is questionable, why not make an add-on? That could then be simply removed if someone complains, and the developers behind SongBird couldn't be blamed.
As for the answer, Ali Rayl said it well: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
That means that we could get iPhone/iPod Touch support after all. Maybe.
I’m unconcerned

Inappropriate?Well, like your link says, the iPod add-on has been open sourced. If someone wants to jump in and give it phone/touch compatibility, then go for it. However, IMHO, I don't think it's worth it to support iPod touch / iPhone syncing. If you bought an iPhone or a touch, you obviously value the features they have over the features of, say, the iPod classic.
If you sync your iPhone/touch with Songbird, you loose all of those additional features. You lose your applications, (unless the sync with SB doesn't touch the .ipa files) you lose video syncing, (at least until we support video management and playback) you lose image syncing, contacts, calendars, etc.
Right?
