Converting Songbird profiles
Is there a way to convert a profile created with Songbird 32-bit to a 64-bit?
I would like to upgrade from Ubuntu Intrepid 32-bit to 64-bit, but I don't want to lose all my Songbird database, especially ratings and playcount.

Inappropriate?I don't believe there is a native 64bit version (the 64bit version is the same as the 32bit probably, and they just reference the 32bit libraries on the 64bit platform).
Any reason why you are switching to 64bit though? Its kind of overrated! I have 4GB of ram, and run windows, and all you would expect is:
1) More compatibility problems
2) More bugs
3) Less memory efficiency
4) Little benefits unless you often consume at least 3.5GB ram, and have at least 4GB physical ram available
5) In many cases a slowdown. 32bit apps will generally run a bit slower (and the majority of heavy duty apps are 32bit still).
6) Native 64bit apps wont necessarily run faster. They need to be redesigned for 64bit (algorithms and all). Halflife 2 for instance is available for 64bit, and the only difference seemed to be longer loading times.
64bit is one of those technologies that can make a big difference, but wont really at the moment (because 4GB RAM is still enough).
Personally, I downgraded from 64bit to 32bit again (there was always the very rare application that had issues).
Whilst I'm pretty sure there is no native 64bit version, even if there was, I doubt a conversion tool would be necessary. Unless the developers are really out of whack, 64bit only generally affects structures (mainly pointers) in memory.
But is there any particular reason why you are considering 64bit? Just don't get your reasoning wrong like I did. Furthermore, don't believe the crud many users are saying about it (what I have heard many people say simply isn't true). The disadvantages usually outweigh the small performance gains you sometimes get. -
Thank you for giving advice. In fact I've 4Gb of RAM which I need a lot to run different virtual machines at the same time on my Ubuntu install. I'm trying the 64-bit of Ubuntu and I noticed that Songbird refuses to start when I copied & pasted my Ubuntu 32-bit songbird profile.
