Copy the value of the "Artist" metadata into the "Album Artist" ... ?
Hi,
for some Songs I want to copy the value of the "Artist" metadata into the "Album Artist" metadata field. Is there a way to do this? Or is there an AddOn for this available?
Thanks
Konrad

Inappropriate?the "Metadata tools" add-on should does it, although it hasn't been updated recently and had an issue with that specific action.
What it does, is filling the AlbumArtist field in the Songbird database, but was failing to write it to the files itself.
This being said, if you don't syncrhonize with a MP3 device, there is no problem.

Inappropriate?klint,
thanks for the info! i wasnt aware there was an addon out there that did it.. SWEET!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Michael, it seems that there is a flaw in the Metadata Tools currently, that prevents the AlbumArtist to be written to the file itself.
But you can use the "Save tags" tab from the "Tagger" extension do write DB tags to the files, as a workaround.

Inappropriate?AH SWEET! Thanks Klint! I forgot about Tagger! That's definitely more efficient than using Vandelay since you can select the ones you want!
I’m happily bowing down to Klint !!

Inappropriate?I have asked the author of Tagger to add some additional features to his extension, one being the copy of Artist into empty AlbumArtist, so that one extension only is needed (Tagger seems to be more complete and more frequently updated than Metadata Tools these days)

<3 the ideas.. thanks! -
Inappropriate?I'm happy to tell you that the Tagger extension has just been updated by its author, Horazont, following many users's requests. And thanks to his very good work, the following feature are now available and working well:
Features:
- Rename files based on tags (using token/placeholders)
- Set tags based on filename
- Set tags massively on a selection of tracks, by using tokens/placeholders to copy one tag to another one (very useful to copy Artist into Album Artist, for instance)
- Replace a substring by another in any tag for a selection of tracks
- Select a list of tracks and reset their track numbers by auto incrementation (with
offset)... very useful to retag podcasts in my opinion
- Save tag values from Songbird database to track files (see option below)
Options for advance users:
- option to avoid the confirmation popup "Do you want to update x tracks"?
- option to autosave any change done by Tagger to the file (no need to use the "Save" feature)
This makes the tagging very very easy and powerful in Songbird.
I’m excited by what can be achieved with Songbird

I just installed the Tagger addon and it looks powerful, indeed... but I'm not understanding how to use the tokens, or whatever, to copy the contents of the Artist tag to the Album Artist tag. I would Ideally like to select all of my library, or at least a very large chunk of it at a time and have it copy the varying Artist tags for each of the songs to the respective song's Album Artist tag. -

You're wiser!! You even know how to upload pictures here ;) -
Oh my. So very simple. No idea why I couldn't put that together, myself. Thank you much, Michael.
