DirectX 11 Video Transcoding
I noticed in the roadmap that video transcoding was to be in one of the upcoming releases. Will Songbird take advantage of DirectX 11 API's to do transcoding on the video card itself?

Inappropriate?I'm almost certain the answer is no. Why? Because DirectX 11 isn't available for WinXP, Mac, or Linux which account for the majority of Songbird users. Rather, Songbird will probably make use of the transcoding abilities of its gstreamer media core. There's really not much support for DirectX at all in gstreamer so I can't see support for DirectX 11 specific stuff coming anytime soon.

Inappropriate? If not in the base application, would it be possible as an extension? Or is that kind of functionality something that would need to be hard-coded into the application?
I’m still hopeful

Inappropriate?Eventually, it could probably be implemented in OpenCL I guess, as ATI/Nvidia will implement that soon, OSX does, and Linux might. Long term, that would be the best solution (but no easy task).

Inappropriate?Oops, I mean ATI/Nvidia will implement support for it in Windows. So all OS's will have access to OpenCL
