Display track details in pane, like in Windows Explorer
Display detail of the selected track in a display pane, in a similar fashion that the Windows Explorer display details of files.
I created a proof of concept extension. If any one has any ideas to make improvements, please share.

Inappropriate?Very nice add-on toe_head2001!
Ideas:
-Being able to edit the metadata right from the pane.
-Mass edit metadata when selecting multiple tracks..
I think it would be an awesome, handy metadata editor tool then!
I’m thankful
-
I don't think being able to edit metadata is necessary. Songbird has inline metadata editing.

If you want to edit multiple tracks, what's wrong with using the built in editor.
Plus with the non-metadata info (like bit rate, play count), being able to edit some stuff and not others, might make it have an inconsistent look.
If metadata editing is added, it needs to be done right. -
i was just thinking it would be a couple less clicks to edit the metadata... just like how you can inline edit the metadata in windows explorer... -
I think Michael is right. Songbirds inline editing is nice, but the main purpose for me to use DetailsPane is to see details that are not already visible in the Library (because i have the column hidden or it's out of screen). And it would be a lot more convenient, if I could edit the data right in DetailsPane, instead going through the procedure "show extra column" -> "scroll to the extra column" -> "inline edit" -> "hide extra column". Okay, there is the meta-data-editor, too, but it doesn't have all these details...
However, it's not a big deal-breaker or something. Just another idea for an improvement ;-) -
@atreiu
You make a good point, although, I still think it's kind of redundant.
As this was just of proof of concept extension, I used code from another extension, called details page, that does have editing capabilities. So I guess if I continue to use that code, I would not be that difficult. -
On second thought, I can probably just use the existing code in Songbird from its Metadata Editor. I hope. -
Inappropriate?I agree, nice add-on!
My Idea: let the user decide, which details to display, maybe inside the details pane itself (via drop-down menus or context menus), and not via an Option-Window (that would make it less convenient).
I’m thankful
-
Um, not sure how drop-down menus would work in this situation, but context menus would work. -
Inappropriate?I will not be working on this any further, due lack of experience with Songbird's code and APIs. If any one's interested in taking over this project, please say so. Although, I don't recommend working off the code in the extension, as I just throw borrowed code together to get it working.

Inappropriate?Umm, I realy like this concept. Winamp's Bento skin also has a current track info box area to the left of the playlist, but not all the track details are shown at once; some are constantly displayed and others are cycled through. If this extension could also have the non-essential details be cycled through, it would take up less space, and could possable be able to fit in the pane where the album art usally is.

I saw on the extension's page comments that the user loicfevrier has done some work on this, and I would like to say thanks.
I’m excited

Cycling through different metadata is an interesting idea. Thanks for sharing. Even though I'm currently working on this, I'm still very interested in seeing it be further developed. -
Inappropriate?Well one problem i see, is that there's no display plane at the top.. Which means this should be at the bottom or (malplaced) in the sidebar..
Am i the only one thinking that we need a "top" displaybar? -
Maybe you should post a new thread about it?? I'd like to see what people would say about it. I agree that a top bar could be a good option. -
You can get the content pane on the top with the Power Tools extension.
