DLNA or UpNP support ?
Hi, I was wondering if there were plans to integrate some support for DLNA or UpNP streaming... This would allow users to share there library with the PS3 and many other devices.

Inappropriate?Hi pauly b,
Going through our posts we saw that your comment/question fell through the cracks. Doh!
Others have made the same feature suggestion requests in Buzilla. You can track the comments on these work items by:
1. Going to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug #4788 and bug #12740.
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box.
3. Scroll down and hit commit.
If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team.
Again, sorry about the delay in our response!
I’m apologetic

Thanks Laura
This would be an awesome addition to songbird. The feature is currently supported in xbmc media center I don't know if the already developed code for xbmc could help the developers any but thought I'd suggest it as a place to look...
Thanks again and I'm loving songbird as my primary media player. -
Inappropriate? At the moment, if you run linux, ushare is a fantastic alternative to that. And I have looked for others, too. The VLC Peeps have a working project for this, too.

Inappropriate? How do I actually enable the UPNP server from within Songbird? I don't see any options for it in the 1.0 release.
I’m confused

That, of course is, because there is no support for this in songbird for now.
Maybe in some future version (2.0, or some such).
This Topic here is only a suggestion. A feature request, that maybe, one day could be implemented. -
Inappropriate?A Media Player that can not access network server.... Am I missing something at the time when everything is based on Internet ? I can access music on Last.fm but on on my personal server, weird?
I’m frustrated
-
It is possible, IF the networked media is mounted correctly on your OS.
Then, it should just work as intended. I have no problem with networked storage on my ubuntu machine! -
Inappropriate? No, the purpose of UPnP and DLNA is meant for a local area network, or what you might call a "home network". It is not meant to be accessed from the external world nor meant for streaming media like Last.fm (normally).
I’m annoyed. Learn networking please.

Inappropriate?um, yup i would definately LOVE some uPNP AND DLNA action. I've made a recommendation for DLNA alone, but never thought about uPNP... and i've also see another person asking about library connectivitiy when he changes locations and different shares become available depending on what he's connected to.
I’m thinking these network requests will actually make it into songbird!
-
Inappropriate?@Anonymous The purpose of UPnP (and DLNA, which builds on UPnP) is indeed to play and serve media on the local or "home" network -- among other things -- which is exactly why it would be so useful on Songbird. UPnP media sharing, properly built, would offer similar music sharing abilities as iTunes or WMP. And we could stream from the local network as well as Last.FM, or anywhere we please. Good stuff.
I’m also annoyed, but for different reasons.

Inappropriate? For all the replies this feature request has, the bug itself only has three votes.
Go here http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show... and click 'vote for this bug' if you actually want something done.

That's a great point BBThorton, but to all, keep in mind the 51 votes here are also taken into account. I'll update the bug with them now. :0) -
Inappropriate?Hello,
All my music is on my NAS server. How to share music via my home network with Songbird ? The Nas is UPNP full compatible so it would be nice to have this function working properly on Songbird.
