does last.fm add-on remember song ratings?
does songbird last.fm add-on remember what you rate a last.fm song the next time it plays? For example, I'm using the last.fm add-on, hear a song, rate it 3 stars, then listen to it again later. Does the add-on remember what you had rated it?

Inappropriate?ok so from what I gathered, there is something that lets you import last.fm play counts via:
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
but the rating is stored on your songbird rating file, however, no one else can see this.
Lastly, always check this before posting: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
=P
Did I get everything?

Inappropriate?Er, not quite! Um, the VI add on dls playcounts from Lfm to SB but it doesn't cover ratings at the moment. You can try this which some one in the community came up with but it's very limited at the moment:
http://www.ioscode.com/
(you have to access it from the browser within SB, not from your firefox/whatever you use. (as if it isn't firefox...!)
Also, you don't need to check that post before you post a new topic, you just need to scour Get Satisfaction a bit more efficiently and see if there are threads to which you could contribute before you make a new one asking questions which have been answered elsewhere. It's no problem though, everyone is happy to help, just quicker for you next time is all :)
I'm really looking forawrd to someone writing a good add on to deal with putting ratings online, i think it would be a great asset. -
Wait I've just realised I misunderstood what you said, I think you were right. Sorry, I'm half asleep! -
Inappropriate? From what im getting at.. Your wondering if last.fm remembers your song ratings... Last.fm does not have a ratings sytem.. just the love/ban features.. The rating of Songs is just a Songbird thing.... (As in, songbirds library, not last.fm's library...) eh?
I’m a bit confused
-
Inappropriate? My question was if SONGBIRD remembered the rating for a song played in last.fm add-on (you do not have a copy of the song on your computer). Basically, if I listen to a last.fm song in songbird and rate it 3 stars, and then tomorrow the same song plays again would songbird show that I rated it a 3.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?O man.. I actually never thought about that... Good Question...
The ratings 'theoretically' should show up again (be remembered) if you play the *exact* same track again.. Because Songbird is able to remember ratings for remote tracks (a.k.a. songs from the web)... I am not 100% sure about it though cause it is pretty hard to get last.fm to play the same song twice... But I'll look into it to see if it does for sure...
I’m intrigued

Inappropriate?I guess another follow up question would be what happens when I add a song to my songbird library with ID3 information matching a song that I rated in the songbird last.fm add-on?
Would the song that I add to my library (located physically on my hard drive) be rated what I rated the last.fm song?
Would the ID3 information have to be exactly the same as in all fields or would only the artist and song title matter?
I’m very curious
-
No, Songbird matches the rating to the "location" of the file.. not the metadata itself..
Hence what I mean by *exact* same track... -
Inappropriate?ah got it. So how does it store the rating for the online music like last.fm? Does it just associate it with the source? I.E. Can the same song from shoutcast (never used but assuming that songbird may have similar add-on that allows rating) and last.fm add-on can have different ratings?
-
yes, it has to mach the source of the mp3 being played... (location of mp3 located on last.fm's servers) so you could have two different ratings, just like you can have two different ratings for two versions of a song you have...
but i would have to see if the ratings actually do get 'stored' for last.fm... still not sure about it since its fairly new... -
idk, i was bored, and decided to change it... do you want me to change it back? Your call! ;) -
Lol, was there any significance? I liked it :) hahaha -
Inappropriate?Alright, so the last.fm songbird add on DOES NOT remember your last.fm ratings. I've had the same song play again multiple times now and the ratings do not get saved along with the "love this track on last.fm" setting; however, if you love the song it does get added to the your loved tracks on last.fm, so it does its purpose. Songbird add-on just doesn't remember that you loved the track.
I’m sad

Ah, thanks for the info!
And the fact that the "Love" doesnt get shown in Songbird is because last.fm's API doesnt support it... It only allows a user to 'submit a love'. -
Inappropriate?I think this idea about adding songs to a library that aren't stored on the user's computer would be helpful in a situation like this, because it could allow Songbird to keep ratings and play count information for last.fm tracks. I don't think I would ever use it because I have every song I ever listen to on my hard drive, but I just feel like it would prove useful as Songbird integrates more with the web.
And I really wish Last.fm provided "love" information in its API too. Maybe we should all sign up and make a request on their feedback and idea forum:

I think the problem is that it only gets the last 50. I don't even currently have more than 50 so it wouldn't be much of a problem for me, but I think for people who have hundreds, there would be no way for Songbird to get their older ones. I don't even understand what the use is in limiting it like they do.
