Does the new iTunes import/export feature imports/exports play counts and ratings?
Yes or no?
If no, is there a way around it?

Inappropriate?Hey Nazgulled,
It imports both just fine, but it does not export playcounts or ratings. -
Too bad... Either way, I just tried it to use this feature but neither the import/export was working. Anyway, if it doesn't export/import playcounts and ratings, I have no use for such a feature. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?I feel the same way as Nazgulled. I can just as easily import my root mp3 folder to iTunes, its the play counts and ratings I care for.
Similarly, my export doesn't work either. -
Inappropriate?@Brett/Nazgulled
It's a good feature suggestion that's not logged in Bugzilla. Feel free to use this Feature Suggestion form.
I think one reason why the play counts aren't exported is because they are also imported (creating confusion between syncs) (so it would have to be an option to toggle on and off) and for users that use iTunes to scrobble their iPod/iPhone playcounts, it would send duplicates to last.fm(one from Songbird plays, the other when the iPod/Library playcounts in iTunes are compared via the official last.fm client)
-
I don't see/understand why would songbird scrobble anything if only the playcounts are updated at import. I mean, when I sync my iPod with Songbird, I believe the playcounts sync up right? But nothing is submitted to last.fm if I played some songs on the iPod and then synced with SongBird. As far as I can tell, this never happened, why would it happen syncing the with iTunes? -
Sorry for the confusion, yes the playcounts are synced when using your ipod with Songbird. And no they are not scrobbled to last.fm (current idea)
I was talking about users who use their iPod Touch/iPhone and last.fm's official client with iTunes to manage/sync/scrobble their plays on their iPod... If you played tracks in Songbird, then export those playcounts to iTunes, then synced your iPod with iTunes, those plays will get scrobbled again since last.fm's client compares playcounts from the last time it scrobbled to that point.. -
Inappropriate? As a work around you can store your ratings in another field. Some use the grouping field, I actually use disc number as I do not care for this information and I using grouping for key info. So here is how to do it... Create several smart playlists i.e. rating is 1 star, rating is 2 stars, rating is 3 stars, etc...
Then select all in a playlist and assign a number to your desired field 1-5. I find it handy in the disc number field I can say a song is Disc 3 of 5 which to me means 3 1/2 stars
Also you can enter 0 in grouping or I use 101 in Disc number, which I then create a playlist; Disc Number is 101 and rating is greater than 0 stars. This playlist tells me which tracks I have rated but not stored the info in a more permanent tag.
For the last tip to work best you would need to apply 0 or 101 or whatever to the tag for ALL the songs in your library that are not rated. Essentially clearing that field of whatever data it previously had... Technically you could put this in your comment field as well with an apple script or similar so as to not remove any previous comments but still have the info available for smart playlists.
I’m confident
