Duplicate files in library coming from playlists...
Any song that is part of a playlist is being listed multiple times in my library. For instance if I use a song in two playlists, in the library it lists that song 3 times, once for the real file, and another two for each of the two playlists, and it seems to be treating them as separate files because star ratings are not consistent between them.
When viewing the file path and name, they are indeed the very same file, the only difference I notice is that files in the library that are coming from the playlist will capitalize the path, whereas all regular files in the library show a fully lower case path and file name.
This causes a problem particularly when I want to play that album from the library, the song will play multiple times because I can't filter it out by album, even worse is when I remove those duplicates from the library, it actually removes them from my playlist, I've ruined some great playlists like this and it's getting more than a little annoying.

Since when do you use Songbird (what Version number)?

Songbird 1.0.0 (using since 0.5 off and on)
I've disabled every add-on to double check the symptoms (just now, should have done first last night :) but still no luck the song entries are still showing multiple times in the library with the same file paths.
If it means anything almost all of those playlists were imported originally from .m3u playlists I exported from Windows Media Player.

Inappropriate?Could you test that with a clean profile?
That way, we can be sure, it's not a hidden problem in your profile.
Since 0.5 the code Base has changed very much and it could cause trouble.
You can use the Profile Manager to do so. If you don't know how, be sure to come back. I'll make it clear then.

I'm the other person with the same problem ( in this thread ). I have seen that the problem with duplicates after importing a play list exists several times. So, I guess 10 to a 14 people are telling that they have the same or at least similar problem. Maybe we should put all those messages together into one thread.

In my special case. I had the problem after importing playlists from my iPod nano.

Inappropriate?I've never bothered upgrading because "Fresh is Best" so each of the subsequent versions of songbird have been clean installs with new profiles, so I don't think that's at play here Tyler, in fact couldn't be as I reloaded Vista recently as well, so it's definitely a clean profile.
joflo, glad to hear it's not just me, well sort of ;) The link you posted was to this thread, is there another one going with similar problems, I searched before posting but couldn't find anything.

Inappropriate?I had that problem also. But in my case, Songbird wasn't just LISTING songs twice or three or four times it was actually CREATING that many of a file. So when I look into the folder of a song that was listed say 3 times, there were 3 actual copies of the song in the folder. My library should be at just under 3000 songs but songbird will show something rediculous like 4 or 5 thousand because of all the duplicates. And I have to manually go through and delete all the duplicates because the exorcist add on? Yeah that deletes EVERYTHING which makes it completely useless. I haven't really had a solution to this beyond taking the past 3 weeks going through and making sure I have no duplicates.
