Duplicate Songs In Library
I don't care what you say, I DO have duplicates on my Songbird collection. And it can't be the same song twice on my hard drive, those can't exist; I have Tag&Rename to organize my library correctly, and that way duplicates can't occur cause two songs would be put in the same file location exactly which is impossible. I NEED a remove duplicates function. And the Attack Of The Clones doesn't work cause it is obsolete for 0.7+.

Inappropriate?Could you walk me through the steps you are taking to create the duplicate entries in Songbird?
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem..
I started using songbird when 0.6.1 version comes out, and I really hope to use this player as my default player, but then I moved some musics in order to rearrange some musics in local pastes and searched for new media, and an error occurred: the moved musics didn't appeared and the ones which should be removed, were still there... Than I've migrated to 0.7 and I scanned again for new media, and those ghost musics disappeared. The only problem now is that I have 2 or 3 musics with the same path in my library...
I’m concered

Inappropriate?Songbird is not very smart when it comes to moved files yet. If you move your files you need to remove all entries in your library and reimport them.
-
Inappropriate?How can I do that?
-
Inappropriate?Select all songs, right click, select remove, click OK on the warning dialog, file > import media
-
Inappropriate? The same thing has happened to me. I tried your approach, and now I have 1 more duplicate of every song than I did before.
I’m frustrated
-
Never mind, Fixed it myself. It was just me being silly. -
Inappropriate?I have the same. Duplicate songs, duplicate artist names. When I wanted to fix it and retype "artist" in metadata it duplicated artist name on the list.

What's even more frustrating is that there are 4 times "John 5" each containing exactly the same song (only one). The gerne of the song is "Instrumental Rock".
Soo i filtered by gerne and got one "John 5" artist and the rest of the songs (!) that were invisible when filter was set on "all gernes".
It's wierd and messy. I am affraid to start organizing my collection with Songbird because I'm affraid it will mess it up. Probably I have to wait for further Songbird upgrades.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?"The Exorcist" - http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/216
This is the best extension to solve this problem, it worked almost flawlessly for me. You have a list view for duplicate tracks and another list view for ghost tracks (tracks that are on the library but don't exist on your hard drive anymore). I'm using that extension and it seemed to solve my duplicate track problems when I reorganize my music :)
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?I am already using Exorcist (it rocks btw). But does not solve the problem. There are no duplicate or ghost songs according to The Exorcist.
I suppose there is something wrong with Filter Pane.
Filter Pane Errors:
1. Not filtered library does NOT show all the songs.
2. Artist filter shows duplicate Artists (two or more with the same name and songs)
3. Artist filter does NOT show all the songs by artist.
4. Filtering by gerne shows all the songs (and that's probably only filtering that works so far. The rest has errors)
So what's more worrying, it's not a problem of duplicates but the problem of basic filtering functionality.
Of course I can delete everything and reimport it but my tags will be lost (and all the work with organizing is wasted). Can't afford to make it over and over again.
What is most appealing for me in Songbird is future managing big collection of music because I can't say it does the job at the moment.

What happened to me was the fold that songbird put music into changed to c:/blah/blah/bla/Erik/Music/Songbird Music so I had all the music from my music folder importing AND moving into that folder, which gave me the duplicates. So double check that -
Inappropriate?Thanks Erik for Your reply.
I haven't turned "Managed Mode" on, so Songbird didn't move or copy my files. They are in folder structure I've created before installing Songbird.
Should I turn it on and let Songbird manage/move/copy my files?
It wouldn't be much trustworthy if folder structure was crucial for keeping your collection clean.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?OK. I think I solved that Issue.
You have to be very careful and start Your songbird experience WITH SOME INSTRUCTIONS!!
Or a wizard or sth :-)
I'm not a noob.
But I found that if You want Songbird to be sucessful manager You have to let it do things it's own way.
The solution was:
1. Create Library folder.
2. Create Watch folder.
3. For God Sake Library Folder and Watch Folder MUST be different. If set te same folder for both You will end up in mess eventually.
4. Import your files in small packages (eg Artist by Artist) and check out whether Songbird did everything correctly. If not Remove from library, delete files from folder, reimport and pray, for some unknown reason praying works :-P
5. Use Your Watch folder cause it is cool. Drop Your files and delete them after Songbird sucessfully added them to library and copied to library folder.
In the end. TO DEVELOPERS:
Your product seems to work fine. But user needs to know that it performs well ONLY when You follow certain rules.
Let people know the rules from the very beginning to avoid lot's of users get frustrated. Keep in mind that only few of those who are experiencing problems with software bother to post on forums.
Cheers
I’m happy

I am a noob with Songbird. I have these random duplicates. I installed Songbird and indicated which directory my music was in.
I cannot find how to create library folder or to indicate in the options where such a folder is located.
I also seem to be unable to remove duplicate songs from the Songbird playlist.
Any additional help on this would be appreciated, because unless I can resolve it, I'd probably have to go back to Itunes or WMP.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?I have a folder in my library folder called "Add music through here" With some weird characters at the beginning to keep it at the top of the list. I drag all my music in the there and let songbird rearrange it for me. Works like a charm!
-
Inappropriate?most of the duplicates I've encountered came when I started to bring my .m3u playlists into song bird after I imported my library of music. Not sure why I need to import playlists at all...this is a really dumb function imho...my previous player, musicmatch, which I'm trying to find a replacement for, would just bring up the list if you clicked on the .m3u. You copied the .m3u's to a playlist folder that musicmatch defaulted to...no import required. Why is this so hard for others to replicate this basic function. don't make the playlist organizer do more than it needs to, just read the playlists that are there and write new .m3u's as the user creates them. If the playlists already exists, just read them...PLEASE!
-
In my case, the duplicates were created by Songbird the first time I used it. I've never imported a playlist.
I'm going through the library manually to remove duplicates, which is a pain, and I hope that they do not reappear.
